I had a stroke nearly two years ago, this was an LACS Stoke right hand side paralysis with loss of speach, absolutely terrifying for me and my husband and children who were home from uni. I was rushed into hospital and thrombalised. It was two days later they asked if I would consent to going into a drug trail. I'm glad I did as they were the ones who picked up the fact that I was anaemic and b12 deficient, they took loads of blood and even did genetic "stuff" sadly when I asked what "b12 deficient meant" I was told "your dr will prob give you some jabs" I wish they had made it more clear how serious it was, as I said before when discharged I was told to see my GP, but on phoning for an app dr duck rang me and said he didn't need to see me as long as I felt I was fine, and as it was the drug trail dept who did the b12 test that wasn't included in my discharge notes, he did say if I was still worried to go back in six months and they would do some bloods. But I had had a stroke ten days prior my brain felt like it had gone though a blender, and I forgot. So yes I had a stroke before b12 deficiency was diagnosed also they did lots of follow up testing. Echo cardiogram carotid scan and an MRI and they all came back clear, so they couldn't find any cause and said "it was just one of those things"

Thank you for your response. This could be my story even the same side. my b12 continued to deteriorate for 2 years until i got angina and it was picked up by the cardiac team. I had the same clear tests and the angina went to. I hope you recovered fully, I have some neuro deficits from stroke and as b 12 went so low. I reckon it could be related. I now have 3 monthly injections and take boost spray. I have mild stomach atrophy found whilst tracking the anaemia. Hope you stay well. Take care x

Injecting B12 reduced my Homocysteine from 15 to 7 ,after I was diagnosed with P.A. High homocysteine is a contributing factor in heart disease and stroke. You can read all about it if you google.

No stroke but I had a heart attack just before b12 diagnosis. No connection has ever been suggested but I'm sure there was one.

Thank you for responding. I reckon its all connected. I got reversible angina due to anaemia. Keep well and take care x

B12 deficiency causes high levels of homocysteine in the blood. High homocysteine is clearly associated with heart disease and stroke. Search on google and you'll find lots of research.

Thank you Laura, I kind of figured as much. My friend has slightly raised homosysteine and she has been prescribed folic acid. I told her to ask about B12. She had a TIA. I had a stroke but have recovred better than most. The B12 at 20 caused more damage. Thank you for your assistance with this .

B12 deficiency can raise homocysteine........ High homocysteine can cause strokes. I believe I've had small ones over the years possibly overnight, as I have right sided weakness that they've not been able to explain.

Thank you for responding to me. I had one at night. I got over it better than most, but then the B12 was bad. Trying to improve my balance with exercise classees but it comes up unexpectedly and I fall. Please keep in good health. x
