Depressed..

Hello, I've had 2 loading doses over 3 months followed by an injection every 1 to 2 weeks (SI). I was feeling good but then I started to feel sick, loss of appetite, week and fatigued since Christmas oh and cystitis! I'm taking vitamin B complex, vit D3 5000 and iron. Family stress had played a part. Could anyone advise me what to do to make me feel good again as I feel too week to get out of bed.. I can't sleep at night 'till 3am and today I woke at 4pm - this is so depressing.

a) not clear from post what you are saying about the frequency of the injections - is it still every 1-2 weeks?

b) you use up more B12 if things are stressful so may be that you needed some more

c) exactly what amount of B12 is in the B complex you are taking - you may need to be taking around 1000+x RDA to feel any effect ... and for significant numbers of people even that won't work as a way of supplementing.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I'm self injecting every 1-2 weeks with 1mg/1ml Hydroxocobalam and I'm taking Solgar B-Clompex "100" and Ferrograd Iron with vit C. Should I up my dose?

whilst you can't overdose on B12 you can overdose on other vitamins and minerals - notably B6 and iron - so wouldn't necessarily go for upping those - and haven't looked up the complex you mention to see what the dose of B12 is - it should be on the packet in terms of RDA - you might try doing an extra injection of B12 and see what that does for you.

Sounds like low potassium. b12 shots drag down potassium. If your injecting that frequently you need to keep your pot level up or you crash. I went through the same thing on my biweekly injections. Now when I'm ready for a jab I start loading up my potassium the day before jab with lots of bananas, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes exce and for 4 days after jab. I havent crashed since

Another alternative to keep up your potassium levels is to replace the salt you use in cooking, or sprinkling on your chips (a good source of potassium already) with low-sodium salt. This is potassium chloride instead of sodium chloride - so is a great source of potassium. Plus it'll keep your sodium intake down (which most people assume is a good thing).

I have already replaced my salt with pink Himalayan salt. Its low sodium and chocked full of great minerals. But I have never used alot of salt anyways

It also contains some not so great minerals - like radium, uranium, polonium and thallium.

The best one I have found is called Lo-Salt and is available from the Co-op but not Tesco's.

If your supplementing with iron, this depletes zinc uptake. So if your iron is at a reasonable level try taking zinc. Zinc helps restful sleep, depression and appetite.Try

Vitamin c and zinc supplements for a few days to see if this helps.

My iron levels were told ok. Have taken zinc before told by doctors not too take it unless diagnosed. Will try more zinc foods. Pretty scared to take any thing at the moment it s a nightmare. Sense of smell ok and taste buds normal sign of zinc deficiency, but will consider looking into it. Many thanks for your reply
