I've been taking Amanatadine for almost 15 years. What your question? I hope I can help?

Hi Maryalice

I don't know if you have read my post to shall1019 but I noted you have been taking Amantadine for 15 years, I have been taking it about 6 years and am a believer in it's anti Dyskinesia properties.

I take two capsules per day - 1 with first dose of Sinemet and Azilect and 1 4 hours later with my second dose. I feel good in the morning and afternoon but wane in the evening - even after an afternoon nap.

I have often wondered if this evening waning is because I don't take

a third Amantadine? I wondered if I could take an extra Amantadine - making 3 per day - which might make me brighter and feeling better in the evening?

I know we can be all different but, as we both obviously tolerate Amantadine, I feel comfortable asking you this question and hope you feel likewise in answering

Kind regards

Bob

Bob,

I take 100mg. 3Xs a day. My doctor told me that this was the maximum dose. I think I'd ask your doctor and try taking it 3Xs a day. It seems to help me. God bless.

Thanks Maryalice

I will certainly ask about moving up to 3 capsules per day - I will post an update once I see the Consultant - probably December

Kind regards

Bob

This drug has been helpful to me especially when I was either over or under medicated.

Thanks for replying. I've been diagnosed for 2 years and so far have just taken Azilect. Sinemet and Mirapex did not work for me due to high blood pressure with one and swollen feet with the other. So my doctor wants me to take Amanatadine and I don't know anything about it.

Have no fears - I've been taking two Amantadine 100MG for 6 years.- I take the first capsule with my first Sinemet of the morning - along with Azilect 2MG

I take the second 4 hours later with my second dose of Sinemet. I feel good in the morning and in the afternoon but not so good in the evening and I wonder if it's because I don't take a third Amantadine (I don't know if I could take a third but will raise with my Neurologist when I see him for my annual visit in December.

I must stress that I am a layman but many of us PwP believe Amantadine slows down the onset of dyskinesia Certainly I have none whilst a friend who was diagnosed 1 year before me is terribly affected by Dyskinesia

Good luck with the Amantadine - NB I started Amantadine before Sinemet to try and control my tremor but it did not help that but the above is accurate. I also think it is important that you take Azilect as it makes your cocktail more similar to mine. I also take ReQuip16MG but am not sure what it does for me - except that if I don't take I, I don't sleep at all!

Hope this helps

My husband takes Amantadine with good effect. I did not know about slowing onset of dyskinesia. He also takes ropinerole/requip. He has always slept well. He tries to take his 2 doses 12 hours apart.

I was taking amantadine for about 3 months and it really helped me until I developed severe swelling in the lower legs, ankles and feet. Unfortunately, I had to stop taking it.

Thanks for replying anyway - that's what happened to me on Miraplex.

I agree with all of the the replies, Amantadine is very good Pd drug. But like all Pd meds you have to pay. I've been using it for years, it has a bad list of poor reactions. I have never had much sleep, and my legs are always swollen and a weird red to purple colour. But 4 X 100mg daily, I have tried to test it's benefits to me, even cutting it down, I was falling, weak, shaking. And when I took it my balance and strength came back.

My husband took Amantadine for about 1 1/2 years when he was first diagnosed with PD, but had to stop because he couldn't sleep. 2 or 3 days a week, he'd be awake for 26 hours. It was a great medicine for him...it took away over 80% of his PD symptoms.

He takes Azilect too & was put on Mirapex ER to replace the Amantadine. He gets too sleepy on the Mirapex ER, but his neurologist is reluctant to change it. Mirapex takes away a lot of his pain.

Amantadine produced immediate positive results in me, specifically in my ability to move, increased facial expression, and sense of well being. But I hear some people face side effects to know about this visit here internationaldrugmart.com/a...
