In addition to stalevo 100mg 6 times a day and resagaline. I have for the past two weeks been taking Amantadine 100mg once each morning with the intention to increase it to twice a day from next week. However I have noticed that ive been waking up after a few hours sleep every night and finding it hard to get back to sleep. I normally find that i tremor when i go to bed, but this stops as i zonk out. Ive noticed that when i wake in the night i start tremoring which makes it harder to go off again. Could it be coincidence? Has anyone else found amantadine caused them sleep problems.

Could Amantadine cause sleep problems?
I have taken 100mg amantadine every morning for some years together with Sinimet. Not aware of any increase in sleep problems when I started, I take myself off it for a few days periodically and don't see any change in sleep then either. Deep breathing and/or CBD oil help with achieving the calm I need for my tremor to stop so I can sleep. Also take 100mg controlled release (CR) Sinimet before bed.
Thanks. I'll look at CR sinemet
Yes Amantadine is known to cause sleep problems. I take 200mg day, one tab at 7am and one tab at 12 md. I was told to take it in the mornings to try and avoid problems. As to tremor, i tremor for about 15 mins when ever I take meds. I dont know if you take anything overnight.
Kevin, I have tried going off Amantadine twice and my tremor went into overdrive. I lasted about 4 days and gave up. How often do you have a break from it?
I was put on amantadine2 years ago but I had to stop taking rasagaline so I slowly stopped taking rasagaline over a a two week period
As regards to sleep problems I have slept better since being on it
Amantadine hasn't caused me any sleep issues, whereas CR Sinemet gave me intolerable insomnia. I guess we are all different!
I’ve been taking 100 mg of Amantadine twice daily for over a year, I take Rytary as my main PD med. I’ve been taking it for 2 years and have found it works great. For me, much better than CR Sinemet. Rytary is expensive though. My doc added the Amantadine as a supplement to the Rytary. I’ve not had sleep problems on a Amantadine. 9 years post diagnosis.

Late reply, but indeed, Amantadine gave me terrible sleep problems of the kind you describe (waking up in the middle of the night, not being able to go back to sleep). So I went off it, and sleep patterns returned to what they were previously within just a few days. Good luck.
