Pregabalin and Ropinirole

Hello,

I've been taking Pregabalin gradually increased to now 150 mg 3x a day for several years for nerve pain in my legs from disc injuries in my lower back. A couple of years ago my doctor added ropinirole 3 mg a day to my pregabalin. It seemed to help a lot and have not had any adverse side effects that I'm aware of. I recently had to switch my pain management doctor due to insurance reasons. My new doctor says that he has never heard of using these drugs together for nerve pain. My question is has anyone else ever used this combo of drugs to treat nerve pain or neuropathy? Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

BK

Hi, I was on pregabalin for a few months then it made me feel worse so I was swapped over to gabapentine, we upped the dose when it didn't make me feel better to the stage where I was on 2400mg a day - and suddenly I couldn't move at all... Turns out these two types of meds had been in my system long enough that they were 'turning against me' for want of a better term.

In my experience of listening to others on these meds, it's a bit of a common thing that they start to 'attack' some of us. I was weaned off them, and found I was much better off, but also felt I was remarkably better than before I started them.

I do feel they both worked for a time, but I also feel pain becomes more manageable after being on a course of either of them, and then coming off them. I've been in some online support groups and I found I was not alone in this understanding.

Hope that helps, experiences are not the same for everyone but at the same time a lot of meds are not beneficial for long term use.

Hi, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, comes to mind! Does your new Dr say he won’t let you have it anymore, or has a good reason why he may take you off it? But he’s not said that yet! I’m on Gabapentin and my brain is foggy all the time. I have nerve pain in my legs and would like to know whether Pregabalin gives you a foggy head, and does it help your pain. BW Isobel in UK

I agree. No the new doctor said that he'd leave it alone for now and maybe look at changing it in the future, so that's good because it has been working. I never really noticed brain fog from the pregabalin. I was on Gabapentin for a year and a half before the Pregabalin and it didn't seem to help at all. When I stopped the Gabapentin, I had a couple of weeks that I felt like death though.
