I think I’m allergic to my dog :(

randomly 4 weeks ago I woke up after falling asleep on the sofa with a tight chest. I have had asthma since a child I’m now 33. When we first got our dog last year it took me maybe 2-3 months to become ok with him. I had a tight chest to start with. No other allergy symptoms. This settled in time. But now it appears to have restarted and I just don’t know what to do. He’s my everything and is getting me through life. I lost my 14 year old dog 3 years ago it broke my heart. I can’t loose this one too. I’ve tried fenofaxodine and it’s not helped. We also have an air purifier we got last year. The drs have been unhelpful and unsympathetic. I do not get why I’ve suddenly got this :(. Any thoughts appreciated thank you

I had dogs as a child and when I got married we had dogs. After my son was about 3 years old he became allergic and as he was so attached to them we kept them, but they had to stay in one room. Years later after our dogs were gone, I was in a house where there was a dog and I was so allergic it to it and 20 years later I still have the allergy. Its a hard one to know what to do I'm afraid. If you can cope with the side effects or not. Good luck

It could be his fur and the time of year, is he a shedding dog ? Is he moulting ? Is his coat dusty ? I would get him to the groomers for a good bath and groom, if he sheds you will need to keep on top of that which won’t be easy, keep up with his flea treatment. Then look at the house in case there’s dog hair and dander causing a problem, again something to keep on top of, not easy.

One of my daughters is allergic to the dogs and cats, it’s the hair and dust they create so I have to literally blast through the whole house before she visits.

I’ve never had a problem but my 18 month old spaniel has hair that gets everywhere and he creates a huge amount of dust so I’m often sneezing my head off.

you could try taking some certirizine ( sorry spelling wrong). It’s good for any allergies , dust mite etc. my grandchildren , two of them are allergic to my dogs , sometimes certain tree pollen triggers it. I do hope you get better soon, Give your sofa/settee a good clean, I’m not saying your dirty !!! just try everything.

I believe that there are injections available to relieve this allergy.
