Saw my GP today after many months..he appeared disinterested in all my follow up treatment referred year ago....i have always had a good patient/doctor relationship with him but i felt he was low...his manner was not cheerful and when i made a comment about how hadn't seen him for over a year and that was positive wasn't it...he made no comment so the atmosphere was off....His only comment to me ..he thought i was walking better and to continue to use the crutch....
Came out of appt. quite low..having blood tests next week..maybe its just me...but the vibe was off and now more anxious...

This GP is normally so supportive and friendly in his manner..have seen many times over the years so felt deflated when i left surgery with unanswered questions about recent procedure..and whether i should keep on the present medications....feel the NHS is not communicating when referred elsewhere and i felt exhausted when i left and had waited so long to see myGP and felt appt. had not made me feel positive going forward
Yes we all have off days..but he has always been so supportive so i felt a bit anxious and didn't get ask an important question which i had actually written down..
So dissapointing especially as appointments are hard to get...I would phone and ask for a telephone appointment with him, they seem easier to come by here in Plymouth...on the upside he thought you were walking better, so thatβs a positive...donβt let any ones mood swings affect your own.xx
GPs are under enormous strain at the moment. There aren't enough of them for a start, so they are having to do two people's jobs. On top of that NHS England and the CCGs keep making top down changes which affect the GPs and how they run their surgeries, and it can be very frustrating being caught in the middle between the patients and the government. Especially when a certain Health Minister keeps coming up with useless ideas.
And something GPs are trained to do is not share their own personal problems with their patients.
I hope that next time you see your GP they are a little happier and that this was just a bad day for them.
Yes GPs and the NHS are under pressure...also, a long serving GP told me once that many take anti-depressants...i really do hope this GP is in good health as, have known him for over 15 years....
I wasn't being critical moreover i was feeling surprised with his overall manner....and as i said above, i totally forgot to query an issue as a result of this...and had had to wait several weeks for a face to face appt.
GPs aren't supposed to accept gifts, but I gave mine a book called Humanising Healthcare which was written by a Scottish doctor and it really cheered him up. But he still retired a year later as he couldn't stand being in teh NHS anymore. I saw him about 6 months later and he looked 10 years younger!
