cervical stenosis and pain relief

just wondering if anyone has any experience with heat belts for pain relief?

Hubby suffers from a degenerative spine (cervical stenosis) and was just starting to feel slightly better after sleeping on our new memory foam mattress for just two nights.

Unfortunately we came to our holiday cottage in the Lake District the next day - and a much softer bed - and coupled with the very cold weather we’re experiencing here, his pain is really bad. He is finding that a hot water bottle really helps and then we read about heat belts.

He does find that heat affects him greatly.

We’re also going to check out the Warrior Balm that Helipad suggested.

In the meantime, has anyone tried the heat belts and do they work?

Sorry to hear this Doraflora😢

It is certainly true for me about memory foam mattresses and heat being better for my spinal pain.

For a year and a half I have slept in a recliner and near 24 hour access to a long neck and back heating pad and these have been my saviours, bringing my pain to a much more manageable level, alongside taking maximum gabapentin and co-codamol.

They are so flexible, you can move them around or up or down your body, and I have washed mines in the washing machine on low spin and 30c many times. I got mines from Amazon, and you can play about with heating settings up to 6 and timers, there are many types and brands.

The only issue I have with them occasionally is that you have to be careful what level of heat you have it on as I have developed erythema ab igne, a skin condition from being against heat, people used to get it from being too close to a coal fire and you can get it from things like a hot water bottle being too hot on the skin too.

Other than that I would highly recommend a long heating pad, and an electric blanket, I haven't heard of a belt though

Hope this helps

Thanks so much for that, Lila. That’s so helpful to know about a heat pad.

Hubby really suffers when the weather dips cold (and we have certainly had some cold temperatures here in The Lakes, although I guess it’s the same for you in Scotland !)

We’ll definitely be ordering a heat pad/belt and hope it has the same positive effect on my hubby 👍
