I need to know why doctors are so afraid to prescribe effective pain medication to patients with no history of drug abuse when the patients pain is interfering with daily living needs such as bathing.

How to cope
It's not the doctors as such, but rather the system that governs them.
Countries and states have different protocols for how drugs are prescribed, and levy drastic retribution on any doctor who doesn't toe the line.
Most of these rules are made up with an eye on public relations rather than medical needs.
So-- as always-- the long suffering patient is caught up in the middle.
Between a hysterical public perception and an administration that needs to be reelected at constant intervals.
Cheers!💚
Hi sweetie 🙂,I'm having that exact problem !😑
I was on just enough morphine to keep the pain manageable. Now I've been told to stop it.
All opioids are being reduced and stopped.
There are many people on here that had to stop all meds😡. I've come off tramadol so codamol and paracetamol. The lame excuses are they give us headaches😵.
Bollocks. I'm off them all my headaches and pain are much worse.
With you there is no excuse !!!!!🤗 hugs 🤗🤗Dawn
A Madlegs says, it i the system that governs the doctors that is driving this. And this system looks at population level, not at individual level. Ideally all doctors world wide would practice personalised care, that is, looking and listening to the patient in front of them and doing what is right for them. But sadly the doctors are constrained by medicine of the numbers. If the majority of people shouldn't be taking a drug, then no on should.
Also medicine does change as new knowledge is acquired, and many people were on opioids unnecessarily. But it seems that the pendulum has swung too far the other way now.
Have you been able to go to a pain clinic?
My GP has mentioned a physiatrist. I just need to make an appointment with them and get there for an evaluation. I’m hoping this gets resolved as I’m in pain during walking then very sore when I sit or lay down. I bought some magnesium foam for my muscle soreness and cramping which seems to calm the pain down a little one I sit down. Thank you for your message.
I too went thru this pain management dr.’s in the States this is where you would go to get the medication needed for pain but I found even thru theses specialists that I was not give what I was in need of due to my level of pain ..this is why I found an herbalist and more natural ways to deal with the pain..the medical professionals failed me time and time again and not by their fault definitely because of the system they are not able to treat patients with the opioids that are needed by them without fear of loosing thier licenses…try finding a more natural approach such as an herbalist..this has helped me..it dose require a lot of research but has been worth it for me ..I wish you luck
It's out of control in the US. There are no laws preventing doctors from prescribing these meds, only recommendations. The medical associations, etc have interpreted these recommendations too drastically. They're a bunch of cowards and patients pay the price for their lack of values.
You may need to see an actual pain management doctor as I do. At my first appointment, she gave me image requests for X-ray and MRI to verify that I had a condition that warranted pain management. I did for my lower back. She also made me give a urine sample to see if I was taking any other pain medications as a drug seeker would be doing. I was clean. After all that, she gave a steroid injection in my back, had me sign a document stating that I would be given opioid medication, and prescribed Hydrocodone. This started 4 years ago and I have been seeing her regularly for different procedures, and continued medication. This is her specialty practice. She is not a primary care or GP.
I am and have been going through this process. Thank you for your advise.
It might be no consolation but there are Millions of People in this Country and throughout the world who suffer from pain issues. Attending an N.H.S. Pain Management Course might be helpful. I certainly found it a help and it always useful to be able to refer back to the notes that are given and to comments made by others on the course. Also recommend the book "Manage your Pain" which is useful and practical.
