I occasionally use lidocaine patches.

They work well for me.

Pain patches are like any other medication. What works for one person won’t necessarily work for someone else. Often pain patches will be prescribed when oral medication isn’t working. There are a variety of pain patches but unless you try them you won’t know if something works for you or not.

Thank you I think it’s a Butrans patch they want me to try

I say yes. My David was on Fentanyl 100mg which was high but worked very well

Down side was could only be changed every 72hrs and they had a cut off around 60 hrslike a safety valve

I agree. Fentynl patches work very well for me but you really can tell they are cutting down in the last 12 hours before they can be changed. If they are then changed late I do get very twitchy

Cut them into 3 equal parts, and rotate every day. ie--- one third size patch each day.

This can only be done with film patches, NOT gel patches.

And the cutting must be very exact. Difficult to achieve on the oval patches.

Good luck.

I have had success with Butrans patches.

I think this is what they want to try next.

I started on 5 patches and worked up to 35s, they do irritate my skin but they definitely reduced my nerve pain. Good luck ☺️

I have severe nerve pain. What patch do you use? Thank you.

Hi, I had Transtec 35 patches plus 100 Tramadol slow release tablets twice a day for a few years, thankfully I have had a spinal cord stimulator fitted last July and am slowly reducing my pain meds, I’m now down to 5 Butrans patches and 50 tramadol twice a day, hopefully less in the future. My nerve pain is due to permanent nerve damage after surgery and failed surgery syndrome.

I’m glad Tramadol helped you prior to getting your spinal cord stimulator fitted. Tramadol put me to sleep 24/7. I stopped using it after two weeks.

I hope your neuralgia eases with time. Good luck.

I’d never heard of Transtec patches. I did use Fentanyl duragesic patches ( 12 mcg ) and they didn’t rid me of my pain. I’m successfully weaned off of them as I finally had the three surgeries I needed.

I send you positive thoughts.

I am on Fentanyl patches. Changed my world for the better. They reduced my time from 48 hours to 72. That was far less effective. Then they increased strength to 37 1/2 mcg caused me to be short of breath so I just returned to 26.mcg every 72 hrs. Anytime I question increasing they consider weaning me off entirely. I have 12+ spinal compression fractures and scoliosis due to bone ĺoss. I'm getting more fractures...toes, fingers, leg. I prefer my current pain management to any other team. I also have lidocaine patches but not yet started them. Blessings

they don`t work on me but then again nothing does plus they keep falling off.

You could use zinc sports tape to attach them. Although some people find they irritate the skin.

May have to experiment with different tapes.

Good luck.

I used Butrans patch for a while and they did help a lot. You do get used to them quickly, meaning regular dose increases. Eventually though the skin irritation was too bad and I was running out of places to put them where skin was intact. Now on MST tablets.

A butran patch will work but you will get break through pain. You could ask for a low dose opiate like 5mg oxycodone or Tramadol in addition to take for break through pain.

Butrans patches work for me. I find they just keep the edge of the pain. It does not remove the pain but makes it more manageable.
