sudden heat!!

hi I am in my 70’s with orthopaedic problems which cause me pain, along with high blood pressure and other age appropriate niggles all controlled with drugs.

I have been suffering from “sweats” over the last several months which begin at any moment, and last 4-5 minutes. They mainly happen when I lay down and before I urinate. I realise that they probably are not serious, but very uncomfortable and embarrassing and the temperature of my surroundings are variable. But they could be a warning of something else.

My GP has been of no help but if someone in the group has had similar experiences I would be very grateful.

Did they start after a new drug at all? I am taking predisalone steroids and they make me hot as soon as I have a warm drink, coming in from outside if it's warmer inside than out. I am female though. But I have read that testosterone levels in men can cause this the same as oestrogen levels can cause it for women. It can also be an underlying health problem. I'd ask for tests from your GP just to get everything checked. I hope you get to the bottom of it.

That's an interesting question Paul 29, I just started a new tablet early this year and I get similar problem , never had this problem before . I am female with a recent change in health due to age. So guess it might be worth you talking to your GP . I think its my newly diagnosed health issue which is currently being investigated rather than a drug side effect. If you want to talk more you can privately message me. I have recently changed my pain relief to slow release so could be that too.

Hi there. Sorry to learn you're in a lot of pain. Oddly enough I've been having a lot of sweats over this past few months , At first I thought it was the 'hot flushes' but they are too frequent for that, plus I'm in my '70's . I mentioned it to my neighbour she doesn't have fibro and she said she's having the same. ... she's a bit older than me. I spend half my time, taking something off, then putting it back on... it's driving me potty! I've even woken up at night wet through. The weather has been a bit barmy... I certainly don't do very well in hot weather... or cold for that matter. Could it be a symptom of fibro which is affecting the body's ability to regulate it's temperature? One for the professionals I think. Sorry I couldn't be of any real help.

Take care

Hello Samvegl, Welcome to the unexpected! I am 81 living with PSP, and get theses hot/cold flashes sometimes. Local A-K practitioner says internal heating system is at fault. For me: to put a drop of nascent Iodine in water now and drink now again to fix it ...... so far so good! But different solution for everyone. I avoid pills and drugs due to nasty side-effects, such as ..... constipation for one!

Docs don't know everything. Keep looking outside the box. Acupuncture may be helpful for you. Recently my knees collapsed when I got outa bed. Doc sent me for physio. No good ...... now I find its one side effect of PSP!

Sure, the tentacles of PSP reach far and wide! Best wishes TIMbowPSP
