Chronic pain: Last march I got the COVID-1... - Pain Concern
Chronic pain
Hi there. I would see a rheumatologist to confirm the gout and make sure you’re taking the right medication as there are several and you may need to try a few. Recent studies have shown Covid can cause nerve damage throughout the body, so it’s possible. Wish you luck and hope you get better!
Hi, if you have had an episode of gout you will certainly know.
Normally starts a few days for soreness and redness commonly at the outer big toe joints or at the top of the foot it will be intense with no shoes for days and will reduce say within a few more days. The whole episode is normally 7/10 days.
It is a build-up of uric acid causing crystals to bottleneck at joints.
Uric acid is common and hereditary it can be brought on by rich foods, wine, and alcohol but read up on it.
If you have more than 3 episodes of gout a year you should be checked for uric acid and may be given allopurinol one-a-day tablet that keeps uric acid low enough.
If untreated can cause other damage to the kidneys and liver.
My cousin swears by one cup of pure black cherry juice tescos but cannot be concentrated must be pure. Two tablespoons of bicarbonate mixed and drunk once a day during gout at redness start or as early as possible. It may not taste the best but all my family swear it works and could be an old wife tale.
I'm sorry to hear about the pain and discomfort you're experiencing. I found that many NHS physiotherapists had not done the full 5 years of training required to be fully registered, so were of no help. Having been to a chiropractor in the past, I went to my local chiropractor and found him very helpful. He gave me a thorough examination, explained everything I needed to know, and answered any questions I asked. He explained how he could give treatment to relevant muscles if it was needed. His suggestion was to try exercises first. I was given a written explanation of what I needed to do. TENS transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, is great for your type of pain. It prevents pain travelling along the nerve cells by blocking it with the alternative stimulus that it produces. TENS is significant in reducing the pain you are experiencing. My first visit and assessment cost £60. I've not had to have a follow-up, yet, being as the advice was good and worked for me.
sounds like you have a lot going on. UTI type symptoms after long covid can be caused by mast cells. Your other symptoms could be also related too. Starting point would be Professor ViK Khullar if you Google YouTube covid bladdder he has explained it. My dr is a dr lulsegged for long covid issues he is amazing but not cheap. Can find him on top drs.
You've had plenty of people who have picked up on your gout so I'll concentrate on the other pain. You haven't said which part of your buttock is giving you pain. If it's the soft, fleshy part it could be that you're losing muscle. Nothing really can be done about this as far as I know. If it's at the top of the buttock in the bony area it could be your sciatic nerve that is being impinged. This can also affect your bladder. If you feel your bladder is being affected by the pain you need to see an orthopaedic surgeon. Hope this helps.
