modafinil & diazepam combination

hi in the last year I’ve stopped the dreaded Pregalabin, Mirtazapine and reduced Diazepam from lots down to 20mg a day. Quite functional.

The diazepam is quite effective but leaves me fuzzy headed, it never used to.

I’ve been tempted to take Modafinal to perk me up on busy days.

I know it’s not ideal but after my hard work clearing those drugs I feel frustrated at my tiredness.

Any thoughts please ?

What else are you doing for your mental health? Meditation etc? If you optimise your lifestyle you might be able to get off the drugs altogether?

hi dexter92 If you are fit enough physically join a gym and stick to it might sound daft but the more you put in the more energy you will have worth a try

Hi yes I stopped pregabalin too, it took me a while but got of it completely this year. Like you I felt tired though. I make sure I have a good walk every day if possible and the outside air helps. Plus I try and practise AT every day. Still feel tired at times but will never go back on pregabalin, awfull drug to come off.

These meds affect our organs and mineral levels. They are hard on the liver. Have you ever tried a ‘liver cleanse’ using milk thistle. There are supplies at health food stores.

Could you get your doctor to order your comprehensive metabolic panel done by a lab? They need to measure your sodium, potassium, urea, etc. Meds can cause an electrolyte imbalance in our bodies. I highly recommend it. Your kidneys need to be functioning normally as well.

You haven’t stated your age but as we get older hormone levels change. Could you see an endocrinologist?

Finally, make sure you have not become hypothyroid. I’d get all your thyroid gland hormones tested as well. Hope that helps.

Well done weaning off those meds. I’ve weaned off four meds in the last three years and I totally know how you feel tired all the time. Keep pushing forward.

Hej Dexter92, I'm a 58 yr old woman, and I've had both chronic pain and sleep disorder issues since childhood. Well done for coming off the drugs - I know how extremely hard that is! I used to get Modafinil for my sleep disorder/ narcolepsi, but after a relatively short period, they stopped working. A drug that has helped me a lot in terms of keeping awake is the amfetamins. Dexamfetamine works immediately (ish) and will help you stay alert for 3-4 hours. Lisdexamfetamine is also amfetamine, but slow-release. Lisdexamfetamine can help as a more profylactic, regular medicine - taken every day, possibly with dexamfetamine. The reason I don't use Modafinil any longer is partly the reduced effect (developing tolerance) and partly also that it is a much newer and less well known drug. It carries higher risk of heart problems, even heart failure, than the good old well-tested amfetamines.

So - I don't know if any of this is at all helpful, but I wish you all the best. Anna/Trille
