Who on earth told you to come off pregabalin in just one week? And who put you on such an inconsistent dose?

You are having withdrawals.

Jayjay46today in reply toBananas5

To be honesty banana I was messing about with it but these withdrawals are real . I've been really stupid just hope I can pull through

Bananas5 profile image
Bananas5 in reply toJayjay46today

So your GP prescribed them? And you read the leaflet which accompanies them? And you ignore all that?

Taking strong prescription drugs isn't a game.. Messing around with them is downright dangerous and beyond stupid.

You won't get any sympathy on this forum.

I know that I don't want sympathy I just wanna know will I be ok

You'd better speak with your GP and tell him what you are doing. I can't give any guarantee of the effects.

Presumably he prescribed?

How long have you been off diazepam an what dose were you taking? The withdrawal from high doses can take months. Your pregabalin dose seems really high. I have been on 75mg twice daily. The withdrawal from lyrica is simalar to opiates and should be gradual and prolonged.

Jayjay46today profile image
Jayjay46today in reply toetheral

I been off Diaz's now for 7 months took up pregablin about 2 months ago taking say 900 mg then 300 for say 4 days a week for 7 weeks roughly don't ask me why and I'm paying for it now

etheral profile image
etheral in reply toJayjay46today

Well at least you're over any diazepam withdrawal. You should contact another doc about the lyrica withdrawal. In any case try reducing your dose by half every week until you get to see the doc. Best of luck..

Wish it was that easy all I wanted was more info on pregablin from people who have been through withdrawals and on it longer than me. My anxiety is very high at the mo as well as everything else. The drs in the UK are very unsympathetic when it comes to drugs so I have to continue to CT pregablin got no option been a week now

MsJangles profile image
MsJangles

I have been on Pregabalin for several years now and take a max dose of 300mg twice a day but my meds have only ever been increased by 100mg or 50mg at a time so I would guess that you should reduce them by this dosage. I would suggest staying on a stable dose until you can speak to a medical professional, at least to ease your anxiety etc x

Jayjay46today profile image
Jayjay46today in reply toMsJangles

Thank msjsngles I feel really stupid as I abused it for 7 weeks not every day but say 5 out of 7 my Dr doesn't want to know as he sees it as self medication which it was really. I'm also still on 40ml of methadone liquid and using £15 of heroin a day on top in UK that's 0.2 my problem is that I can't and don't really want pregablin again at all not even 50mg tab as the side effects and withdrawals combined are horrendous so I'd rather CT it.

Bananas5 profile image
Bananas5 in reply toJayjay46today

Why were you prescribed pregabalin in the first place?

Are you in serious pain or just trying to get a high?

Jayjay46today profile image
Jayjay46today in reply toBananas5

No I had a long term diazepam problem got myself down to 10mg daily with the Dr then he suddenly said u don't need them anymore after 20 years on them for anxiety, death and lack of sleep, that was 6 months ago and I thought after trying pregablin that they were a short term replacement but the side effects and withdrawals are beyond recognition

Bananas5 profile image
Bananas5 in reply toJayjay46today

OK well this is a chronic pain forum and it might be more helpful for you to speak to others who may be in similar positions

Have you looked at Anxiety site? Or maybe one of the others?

The horrible feelings go but it takes time. The best thing you can do is try to distract youself with whatever activities you enjoy. You may need calming activities such as,reasons or movies or more active pursuits. Wishing you all the best.

Hi there I hope you are ok. I read some if the replies to you in relation to you're drug issues. I want to apologize to you for people's ignorance around drug addiction. I. Certainly don't hold a negative view to anyone with drug issues, it's no different in my experience to people having any other medical problem. Anxiety is definitely a cause of much drug use and addiction. I need to go so feel free to talk to me anytime.

Jayjay46today in reply toLolarufus123

Yes morning mate seems like Ur the only one with real knowledge here on pregabs had a bad night again no sleep which is xpected I thought maybe being on methadone and 0.1 a bag of heroin a day would help but my tolerance is so high I can only feel the withdrawals thank talk soon

Bananas5 profile image
Bananas5 in reply toLolarufus123

Maybe people's understanding of drug addiction is limited here on this forum because is it a Pain Concern site....and chronic pain at that

We understand pregabalin very well and how it should only be started slowly and withdrawn even slower.

But the author of this post is totally on the wrong forum for his own addiction. He has said he has no pain in the physical sense.

If you understand his mental state it might help him better to answer through private messages....pointing him the correct site where he will get the help he needs.

Hi, I am currently on 600 mg a day of Lycira pregablin, due to major concerns of side affects like weight gain, suffered a cardioversion since being on for heat arrhythmia, serious edema in both legs now etc, I seriously want off it, however as it is now only just masking the pain levels, I am concerned and the period to come off this side and then trying to find something else that works, but will still allow me to drive and I am a part time driving instructor and do not want to give up my independence yet. I also had a gastric bypass 6 years ago which affects my absorbsion rates it goes straight into the intestinal track, had anyone had similar issues/concerns and if so what absorbsion did they find helped please?

Jayjay46today profile image
Jayjay46today in reply toBananas5

Hi again banana as u know I'm very knew to all this how would I private message someone?

Jayjay46today profile image

I also did notice when I was on pregablin I ate food like an animal,my vision was crazily more than enhanced and my energy levels were somewhat superhuman to say the least, bouncing up and down marching about with untold energy now it's the opposite, no appetite, energy and vision impaired, just shows me how much my body has been affected in such a small space of time, do please please if any of u get offered pregablin medically or by drs try to refuse as it's not worth the horrible effects that I am having wether it be pain, anxiety or depression there has to be alternative meds or therapy .

Ive found Pregablin to be perfect, taken along with Norotryptylene, for my neck and head nerve pain. I came off them for a few weeks after having Nerve Block injections , which did very little, so went back to taking P&N.

No side effects when I stopped taking them for a few weeks.

Yes and I do believe that for pain they are a great drug, for anxiety no way, I'm a good example that's why I come on the pain forum to hear all your different stories involving pregablin.

Hi I'm on pregabalin 300mg once a day. I was taking gabapentin 900mg 3x a day but pain clinic swapped me over to 2 X 300mg a day when I was working. I've since dropped to 1 a day which my Dr just said to do. I ve managed that plus stopped an antidepressant and half ed my amitriptyping from 100mg to 50mg at night.

Must admit that my Dr doesn't know much about reducing meds but mone are for chronic back and nerve pain. It sounds like some of your other meds could also have given you side effects after you started the pregabalin. You need to sit down with a good Dr and work through all your meds.

Yes I do to especially when I was on subutex I knew then that was a heroin blocker and that if I took heroin I would go into severe withdrawals I did this about 8 year ago and it was horrific I smoked untold bags of heroin trying to feel normal but I never did. Other than that and also from what I hear and read it seems to be the pregabs that cause all these weird withdrawals regarding also I've been cold turkey off them now for 8 days only I still take methadone 1 bag of heroin daily too

Hi I have a Master's Degree in Clinical Drug Dependencies and worked in the field for 20 years. I think you should see a Dr if withdrawal symptoms get really bad. It may have been better if you came off the pills slowly. I am on them for pain and find they are the only thing that works. I know about the withdrawal symptoms and it's recommended that you come off them very slowly. Wishing you all the best.

Sorry and I have to add it will be very difficult to convince a Dr to prescribe me them after all I self medicated and I'm now 8 days CT

Hi Mate, the key to Pregabalin is a slow withdrawal. I am doing mine by 25mg a time. I thought there was a new NICE guidelines that no one should now be on over 600mgs a day. I had a mightmare starting these but was told to stick with them. I could be on these forever but I went to the Dr and said enough. As for the symptoms, as you know we are all different so difficult to say how long things last. You must get a Dr to prescribe a sliding scale prescription as it is dangeous to suddenly stop and has been known to cause fits. Dont panic!! See your GP straight away mate. I could talk about these all day and their effects, can be great for pain but thats about it. Cheers, Mark oh and Good luck!!

Jayjay46today profile image
Jayjay46today in reply toMarkc012

Hi again mark u seem very knowledgeable around pregablin , I read Ur message,I am panicking mate as these withdrawals are horrendous I've had 3 panic attacks and 15 different side effects honesty. I'm even drinking a few g&TS a day plus other things if u have read my blogs u will understand,so mate how long would u say personally the pregabs withdrawals take to leave Ur system ,please don't think I'm putting u on da spot but I'm worried as it's been neverending now day 8 see Dr tomorrow

Markc012 profile image
Markc012 in reply toJayjay46today

Hi Mate, Sorry not replied earlier, had an emergency hernia repair. It is supposed to take about 3 days to leave your system, but side effects will last a month or even 2, that is why you must reduce really slowly. I tried the quick effect and had a panic attack at work, on my own in a hotel at night with guests in the bar was not a nice experience. Start with one medicaton reduce slowly, forget about needing them out your system quick, nice and slow, then you can start on another one if you so desire. It is horrible, I am here ( like us all on here) if you need to chat. Or you can have my email address if you want. Good luck, you can do it.

Hi Mate that's fantastic news. Well done, they are nasty tablets. Things are on the up. So reduce the methadone and find something to do to relieve being bored. I shall be coming to you for advice now then!! Take care mate.

Valium was the hardest drug for me to come off. It took a few months before I was able to sleep properly. It will get better I can assure you, it just takes time. Hopefully the pregabalin will help, I went cold turkey.
