swollen left ankle

at the end of the day i find my left ankle is swollen i visit the toilet to urinate many times a night and the swelling has gone in the am .i am prescribed 2.5mg bendroflumethiazide water tablet which i have been taking for years.i have no pain or redness but we are flying mid june and i am scared to visit the gp in case it is a dvt. and i cant fly.

It sounds like water retention and possibly if you been on same tablets for years you would benefit from a change in medication? However I would also say if you are worried about dvt- although no symptoms from what you have said, then you are extremely foolish to not go to gp. IF was a dvt then you are not only putting health at risk (risking limbs) but actually your life!! If a dvt breaks off and enters your lungs it can kill you. And that’s before added risk of flying when it is known flying can lead to dvt if don’t move about enough.

Please please go to gp to have water retention looked at and possible change of medication. Then you can ask about dvt’s

I have called the GP and she says it sounds like water retention and to raise the leg higher than your heart and the swelling for a DVT is usually on the calf so thanks for the reply and I feel better now.
