I was prescribed amytriptolene over two years ago, it was horrible, made me sleep like the dead, but the chest pain on waking every morning was the worst I have every felt. It continued for a week after stopping, I started taking amytriptolene again and had the same reaction. Just to prove that it was the amytriptolene.

This drug may be alright if you are female or do not have a prostate. The drug will cause your prostate to swell and so having a p is difficult or impossible. Stick with the pain.

Found it made passing urine very almost impossible & I’m female. Did already have a problem caused by spine nerve damage so not sure why it happens to females too.

We are all different and our bodies all process drugs differently. For Amitriptyline about one in four people get benefit. There are other similar drugs though that do the same thing so if Amitriptyline doesn't work for you, you can ask to try something different.

My son has been using amitriptyline for several years now and it works really well for him.

I’ve been taking Amitriptyline for sleeplessness for several years now. They work for me alongside Citalopram for depression. I suggest you give them a go.

Amitriptyline isn't a painkiller as such but helps to reduce the tension caused, so often good together with paracetamol or codeine combination. Important to start with low dose, same as painkillers and work up every 5 or 6 days till find the right combination. Drs often start at 25mg rather than 10mg and if that is too much, it causes sleepiness and dry mouth. All tablets have good and bad effects and it varies from person to person. Good Luck
