Recently diagnosed with Polymyalgia rheumatica and don’t want to take steroids. Anyone out there who has beaten this without steroids?

I don’t have Polymyalgia rheumatica I have Psoriatic Arthritis and I always decline any steroid treatment I blame steroids for almost all my health issues.

I'm telling you, the pain almost stopped me from putting on my coat, even fastening my seat belt, I was despairing in a never ending nightmare and literally would have given ANYTHING for relief. To me preds were a miracle, side effects be damned.

Yeah thats the unfortunate side effects of any medication.... Your so desperate for relief that you would take anything to make it stop. I know this all too well I take a biologic for my PSA and it doesn’t come without a health price. I regret ever starting biologics and pred as a young person.

But I have not have any noticeable side effects from preds, other than immediate relief. What did your blood tests reveal re . inflammation.Biologics , never heard of them sounds like quackery..

Have you ever tried Acupuncture? Probably not practicing at present time because of Covid. But worth thinking about if you find a well qualified and experienced one.

I have never tried and certainly something I should consider trying.

The ones that treat the body as a whole. Along the Chinese style Acupuncture I find are the best way to go. But dry needling may also be a possibility and some physio’s are trained in this method. You need to check they have a very minimum of 3 years training. And hopefully lots of experience in your condition etc. Worth the money if you get someone with lots of training & experience .

I had the same in both upper arms lived with it for a couple of weeks and was desperate for a cure. Doctor took blood and in meantime prescribed codeine which made no difference whatsoever to the pain ( my count was over 80). She said it maybe go itself but could not predict time period.

Prescribed preds. and was amazed at the almost instant relief, miracle drug.

Initial dose was 15 mg and a few weeks later dropped to 10 and so

on to 5 then to zero. The problem had gone. No side effects whatsoever.

Problem never returned but my pain was debilitating i would have taken any thing for relief. If your doctor prescribed preds . have a go, you will be amazed.

I have an elderly friend that acquired this. She resisted the steroid but eventually the pain was so bad she needed to use it. Her face swelled up and she was very self conscious for years. Fortunately for her, she healed and she no longer needs steroid medication. She took it for five years. Her face has returned to normal.

Hi. I am with you. I do not want to start prendisone or Biologics and neither does my Dr. He insists that the side effects are bad. However, the pain is bad.
