Have you tried two paracetamol or cocodamol with the Naproxen? If you choose cocodamol, though, you will have to take a stool softener such as Lactulose medicine as well because codeine causes constipation. You can get stronger cocodamol on presription but they may make you feel 'spaced out'. Could be used for a day or two if pain so bad? Drink extra water and have a Fybogel sachet each night if necessary.

Would your GP give you a few Diazepam as a muscle relaxant to relieve the pain? Only take for two consecutive nights though as it loses effect and also becomes addictive. OK for a 'one off' to help you get some sleep. Combined with having taken Cocodamols and then Naproxen with a snack earlier should help you get some sleep.

All the best.

Hope this helps. X🐥

You need surgery to fix the impingement. Pain will continue to get worse, as the tissue around impingement becomes inflamed.

I have the same but in my left hip, ive had 5 steroid injections the last year and none have helps only made me and my body worse, I'm on tramadol cocodamol and morphine and it takes a small edge off but not a lot I'm still trying to find the right mixture for me its about finding the right one for you , are you seeing a pain team? x

No my doctor has more or less said I have to put up with it and it should go away in time although I've had it nearly six months I am now struggling to drive as this causes so much pain. I think I may try one of the other doctors in the practice perhaps they might have a different approach.

I do hope you start to feel better soon it's an awful thing x

Hi again.

I've only just seen this reply (since reading pm).

I agree, you should definitely try a different GP at the practice. Especially if adding in the cocodamols hasn't helped to ease the pain.

Is there a GP who is more approachable, more willing to listen and act?

All the best with that.

X

May I suggest you try another doc at ANOTHER office. I have not had good luck seeing another within the same office. As a matter of fact, I don't think they will see someone that has been seen already by a co=worker

get an mri done, demand it , then make an appointment with a good orthopedic shoulder specialist.

I had an impingement in my right shoulder and I had physio through the NHS through a self referral. It took quite a long time to heal but with gentle exercise with a stretchy band and other exercises it went away. I was probably lucky to catch it before it became too extreme but I was struggling to lift my arm to get dressed or lift anything it was quite restrictive.

Hope any of you that are suffering can get the help you need 😄😄

Hi again.

Please Google / look up -

Shoulder impingement on NHS choices.

There is full information on this.

Info on a specific exercise.

Also info on when and if surgery needs to be considered.

ps

On my previous reply I think a better choice of words would have been :

'There is full information on this condition.

Including Information on specific manipulation . . . . . .

also info on when to consider surgery if still not resolved '

There is another recent post /thread in this forum on the same section. I've replied in full there, that may help, but as far as meds go, Naproxen is an anti inflammatory and 500mg Naproxen is basically what docs prefer to give out as it causes little to no problems when taken with other medication. It can make you feel sick or give you nightmares if you don't start on the 250mg's first though.

For impingement, sadly there isn't anything you can get anywhere other than from a doctor or the hospital that will help.

I ended up on 580mg Oxycontin a day (also known by the same name oxycodone) and while it messed with my ability to function, totally slurred my words and severely constipated me, it didn't touch the pain.

As the pain increases pre surgery, you'll be given a whole plethora of meds to try until your body reaches such a point it adapts to the meds really quickly and the relief time gets shorter and shorter. While this is agonizing for you, if you're not in a private hospital, depending on the waiting list, you could end up waiting around 3 years for surgery. In the UK, impingement surgery isn't viewed with any urgency, though many are trying to get that changed.

I had to wait 3 yrs for my right shoulder to be done and 6 years for the left. Even my docs were telling me they were running out of pain killers to try me on that I hadn't already tried. I was in so much pain, I don't recall one day passing where I wasn't in tears either from pain, from being tired of being in pain or frustration of it.

I really wish I could be more positive and hopeful, but it wouldn't help you much if I lied to make you feel better. Other than surgery, very little will help, but even though moving the arm makes the shoulder bones grind together and cause more pain, you have to keep it moving. The last thing you want or need is to have a frozen shoulder as well, from last of movement.

One thing I did find helped wonders was soaking my most painful shoulder in a hot bath. When you get out of bed, try and get into bed with a hot water bottle or heat pads on or under your shoulder and get some sleep before your body temp cools down, as that's when the pain will come back.

I really do wish you all the very best with this as I've only recently had surgery on the remaining shoulder so can empathize what you are and will go through.

Remember though, just because some things didn't work for me, doesn't necessarily mean they conform you, but keep pestering your doc, don't give up.
