Hello all,

a little advice please. I have r/a and back in Nov 20 had a blood clot was given a 3month course of blood thinners(apixieban) just coming to the end of it now and my ankle started to swell and the pain was like when I had my blood clot, so had another scan and confirmed that the original clot was still there but have also developed two new clots as you can imagine the doctor was concerned and took bloods to check if I have sticky blood syndrome does any one else have this and how do you deal with the injections each day etc. Partner is stressed by the news and I am trying to brush it off but if someone could advise on effective calming this malarkey down /possibly living with this syndrome would be massively appreciated. Thank you

Hi pat66. Do you have a definitive diagnosis of 'sticky blood' or just a possibility? It's normally called APS (Antiphosolipid Syndrome) and there is a lot of help and advice here: aps-support.org.uk/ and here: nhs.uk/conditions/antiphosp... for how the NHS diagnoses it. Facebook offer a range of APS groups as well.

My daughter was diagnosed with it about 3 years ago after years of being passed around between consultants for years! . The diagnosis can be complex and time consuming and it's essential to get referred to a consultant who specialises in the condition. Dr. Bridget Griffiths at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle deals with the North East of England. This page will tell you who to look for: aps-support.org.uk/self-hel.... Good luck and don't worry.

Thanks for replying, as yet only a possibility as I have had numerous clots in my leg while on blood thinners so APS test was done. Will be going back in February to find out results. Hope you and you're family are well and thanks for the info.
