Random pain

Hi the past 6 /7 weeks i've been getting pain which seems to move and is very random. It started under my left arm pit which seemed to move to my chest, shoulder, arm and most recently my back just under my left shoulder blade the pain is anything from a dull ache to a sharp stabbing pain. The doctor has examined twice but says they can feel no lumps.

I really dont understand what this could be. It often comes on when i am sat down quiet and doesn't seem to worsen with movement.

Yesterday i had no pain what so ever until around 4 pm.

Does anyone else get pain that comes and goes like that?

I’m surprised that your Dr didn’t suggest investigating further. If it was me, I would go back and see another Dr,

I have been refered to a breast clinic appointment next week. I've spoken to 3 different doctors over telephone constulation. 1 of those doctors did a face to face appointment to examine for lumps around my breast and armpit. Couldn't find any.

I wish they would do a chest xray and take my bloods.

I agree about the chest X-ray and blood tests, Indigo - even if they didn’t prove diagnostic, they could at least help to rule out many things. If ever the pain suddenly gets worse and more persistent, especially if it makes breathing difficult, then A&E would be a wise move.

Hi there. I've been experiencing the same kind of pain on my left side (chest, back, shoulder and arm - I also get pins and needles and it occasionally goes numb). I'm a 38 year old woman, haven't had a breast scan in 4 years and I'm getting paranoid. It could be costochondritis, the spine or sth much worse like the lungs or breast... Cannot go to the hospital for the time being so I'm going a little crazy. Can you post your updates in here please? Thank you so much

Hi yes i will update. Appointment is on Tuesday.

Does yours come and go? I don't get pins and needles but i do get over sensitive to touch and some muscle spasms/twitches. Doctors thought it maybe muscular but ive been feeling like there is a swelling under my armpit also.

I suffer with anxiety so that doesnt help my symptoms either.

Thank you so much. Yes, mine comes and goes and I've had it for 5 years give or take. It's the reason why I had my breast checked 4 years ago (everything was normal which was a relief so I put this behind me). When the pain came back I just assumed it has to do with my spine (cervical spine) and my slouching posture ever since I was a kid, so I didn't have it checked. But I should. Google can give scary diagnoses... I also suffer from anxiety which adds up to the stress. Also, my dad has rheumatoid polyarthritis, so I should have that checked too...

Take care and good luck xxx

Still waiting for results back from mammogram. I have noticed a small pea size bump under my left armpit. Which was there when the breast clinic consultant examined me he didn't seem concerned.

Hi! Sorry you are going through this. I am actually going through the exact same symptoms as you and am curious if you had an update?

Hi Juliet, waiting for call back from my gp today.

Not had results back from mammogram yet.

Have you had any tests /investigations done?

Originally I was told what I was experiencing was muscular pain and was prescribed naproxen to manage the pain.

My pain started about 10 days ago so no tests yet. I had a videoconference with a doc who thinks its muscular too. Told me to take ibuprofen 600mg non stop for 2 days to bring down the inflammation then as needed. I am hesitant to go anywhere due to the virus. We literally have the exact same symptoms lol

So odd isn't it how it just comes on. I also suffer with anxiety which I think wasn't helping my symptoms.

It's hard not to panic when your chest feels tight.

I think the worst bit is not really knowing what's causing the pain.

I have anxiety too so it does not help. What usually calms me are facts (ex tests that show nothing is wrong). I don’t have that peace of mind so my mind is wandering with all the different scenarios. Google doesn’t help either. Mine is on the left side so of course, heart comes to mind. It really doesn’t feel heart related though. It’s hard to explain. Have you started any new activity lately?

No, just normal house work. I did think perhaps I aggravated it by mowing the lawn or perhaps over stretching somehow. I find myself reluctant to do too much in case the pain comes.

When I find myself getting worked up I take myself out for a long walk (social distancing).

I find it helps to clear my head.

Also a hot water bottle helps to ease the pain/ aches.

Just had call back from GP. Told her about the lump under my armpit. Not really helpful at all she just told me to wait for mammogram results and to call back next week. 😟

Walks are great for my anxiety also. I started running a few weeks ago a couple days a week and I wonder if that misaligned or pulled something. Sorry your GP wasn’t very informative. This is such a strange thing to experience and it’s weird how it comes and goes. At least the docs don’t think it’s anything serious. How old are you btw? I am 35. Aside from this, feel perfectly fine.

I'm 41, normally ok otherwise. Few aches and pains throughout the years such as sciatic after having kids but no medical complications.

I was hoping it wouldn't be the same gp that called me back as I know she's not at all reassuring oh well guess I will just have to middle on and wait and see.

Checking in. How are you feeling now?

indigo78 profile image

The same, pain seems to be across my shoulder today.

Been taking 1 naproxen each day for the past 3/4 days which helps to keep the pain at bay.

Me too (taking Ibuprofen daily). It is mostly in my back left shoulder but it moves. It is so frustrating especially because it’s a big anxiety trigger. The unknown.

indigo78 in reply to Juliet1234

I keep saying to myself, well it can't be to do with my lungs as breathing and taking deep breathes doesn't seem to affect how much pain I get. Also the doctor reassured me that he doesn't think It's to do with the heart otherwise it would hurt more walking up a hill or doing anything strenuous which it doesn't.

Juliet1234 profile image
Juliet1234 in reply to indigo78

That’s exactly my reasoning as well. It doesn’t get worse with exercise or breathing/coughing. I don’t think mine is heart or lung related either. The tele doc did suspect muscles. I would feel better after a scan or something to confirm and give a solid diagnosis. With COVID around though, I don’t want to take a risk as the pain is not there 24/7. It comes and goes and moves around. I don’t even know how I would describe it at this point haha.

Hi, checking in to see how you are doing now?

Hi thanks for thinking of me. My mammogram results came back clear. However I was still getting a lot pf pain from my armpit and could see the vein looked swollen amd protruding. I ended up going to the urgent care centre on Saturday to be examined by a doctor who told me I have a inflamed vein due to what she believes is a boil. I am currently on a 7 day course of anti biotics. Still getting the other pain else where mainly up my neck now.

How about you?

Juliet1234 profile image
Juliet1234 in reply to indigo78

Glad you got it looked at by a doc and hopefully the meds help. Mine pretty much went away about 10 days ago or so. Today I am feeing it a again a little, so not sure what’s up with that. If it has something to do with my cycle?? I have no clue. It’s frustrating.

indigo78 in reply to Juliet1234

Hope it eases back up for you.

It could well be to do with the time of the month. Think I am going to start keeping a diary is if I can find a pattern/triggers.

The doctor wasn't interested in my other pains or chest pain. She examined me and pressed down on my chest where I said it was tender all she said was she thinks it's muscular. I've heard that alot.

Oh and I was sent for a blood test and neck x-ray.

Not had x-Ray results back yet blood results say I have to take folic acid.

Glad they did all the tests for you. Hopefully it should give at least a little peace of mind. My health anxiety is triggered any time I have symptoms emerge, so that doesn’t help as I tend to focus on it.

Hi, on another course of antibiotics as my vein is still swollen. 😐

Not had my neck x-ray back yet. How are you getting on?

Juliet1234 profile image

Hope the antibiotics help you. Mine comes and goes but it’s better than it was initially. Maybe time will heal. Keep me posted. I try to distract myself so I don’t think about it.
