I went to the doctor's today and got prescribed doxycycline, I've only taken one dose and I've thrown up a lot and have pain in my stomach, is this normal? It's my first time taking this antibiotic and if it's normal am I just going to continue throwing up til the dosage is finished?

I had the same symptoms when I was prescribed it.It was put on my allergic reaction list BUT recently prescribed it n no side effects.

R u on any other prescription meds? If so..thats what I found was the culprit..meds interacting with each other!😣

phone111 and ask them, also report side effects to GP. Read information leaflet about other drugs and doses.

I have severe diarrhoea with it, it's on my records not to be given to me, I think it one of those drugs that suit a small amount of people

It sounds like a side effect, call your doctor and arrange something else, on your patient information leaflet there’s a website (MHRA) to report your side effect to :)

Hi

It could have been the doxycyline, but sickness/ diarrhoea is one of less common symptoms. However, it could have been something else that caused your symptoms.

Are you taking any other meds or vitamin supplements etc.

Best leave it for a couple of days, then try it again. maybe taking it with food, that sometimes does help if your stomach is a bit sensitive, but that can reduce it's effectiveness...

Make sure you do read the enclosed leaflet, from memory it's taken 1 hour before food or 2 hours after....always with a big drink of water and not to lie down afterwards.

If the same thing happens, then contact your GP... it's pointless taking it if you're going to be sick and your gp can prescribe something else more suitable for you.

Hope that helps
