Lower back pain

Good morning....I have been suffering from lower back pain for some time now. I can manage pretty well during the day but as soon as I lie down to sleep the pain starts and I toss and turn all night. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Hi

Sorry you are in so much pain. Could your Dr refer you. My Dr did referred me cos I already had sciatica and the pain in my lower back had changed also hip pain. Anyway had an MRI, it showed degeneration of the facet joint. He showed me my right hand side was severe and had just crumbled, the left side was moderate. He referred me to pain management who have now referred me to a different consultant who will hopefully give me injections!! Hope you start to feel better soon and please make that dr's appointment. Take care Lynne

Hi I am wondering if it could be something so simple as your bed especially the mattress? Is it old or is the mattress too hard etc? x

No - we bought a new mattress last year when it started to get bad just in case that was the culprit. I was hoping it was as it would have been an easy remedy x

Maybe the mattress is too hard for you? Back pain sufferers were always told to use a hard one but the current thinking is just one that is most comfortable for you. x

Get a mri asap that will tell you if there any visible damage if no visible damage you might be better to see a chiropractor. Dont waste no time mate get it sorted dont suffer in silence push for it .

You might investigate the temporary relief ( possibly ) from DiMethylSulfoxide ( DMSO ). Can be bought OTC and does help in some cases.

I agree with Joshie . Phone surgery again and push harder. You could call every day and ask if they've had a cancellation. It works, I've done it. Good luck anyway 😸

Hello Joshie,

Hasn't your GP referred you to a physiotherapist or for an xray, to find out what is causing you pain?

Hello again...

Thank you so much for all the responses.

I was given an MRI scan last year which showed several damaged joints. I am lucky in that during the day, particularly if I keep mobile (walking is good), the pain is manageable and I seemed to improve for a few months. However, lately the pain has really worsened at night. I am hoping my GP will refer me to a pain management clinic as at the moment I'm just taking Cocodomol every four hours which isn't ideal.

I would say 'a couple of damaged joints' isn't a professional diagnosis. I would ask him to give that 'a name' and ask for the copy of the MRI report or go see another GP. There might be something you can do for that eventually instead of taking pain killers!

Have a good weekend if you can☀️💐🙂

Hi joshie I use a TENS machine occasionally and find this helps me a lot, maybe you could try that.

Hi joshie

As a fellow sufferer I use an electric blanket on a night (heat helps)(not been ideal in summer though!) Another kind lady suggested a batwing cushion. I use the heat rub roll on too. In my area back pain is considered same day appointment. I know it can be hard but ring first thing in the morning to get even a call back

Good luck

Kat

hi Joshie, sorry to hear pain playing up at night inparticular. I use a pillow between my legs to try and take pressure off, I also soak in a nice hot bath with Epsom salts in ,its wonderful, though sadly short lived. Im surprised they haven't got you on any other meds. I know it sounds airy fairy but do try meditation and breathing exercises ,they can help immensely . You have my empathy, when I do get off to sleep I generally wake 3 times :) best wishes

Sleep number bed.. expensive but well worth it.Can adjust ur side and if u have a partner they can adjust theres.Pain isn't always the same. Also.. pillow...MY Pillow...that helps with ur neck which will help keep ur spine aligned. If ur spine isn't aligned ur screwed.

I personally use medical marijuana.. miracle.. helps me to sleep about 98 percent of the time unless my other med stuff is messing with me also.

Hope u find answers n some sleep.
