I have been suffering from a left side lower rib mild pain. it is in the middle of last bone near the upper abdomen. The doctor says it is costochondritis , an inflammation. My chest x-ray is cleaar, no lungs problem. I have eliminated heart problems also as the ecg and treadmill are negative. My stomach is also fine as per CT scan. But I am unable to confirm that I have costo. My only fear is it should not be some other serious problem. How to confirm that I have costochondritis only? is there any specific test to reveal the inflammation in the rib? Please suggest. Thanks

Over tight rib muscles may contribute to the problem you are having.
When I was told I had Costchondritis (by a breast care nurse) she asked me to lay on the couch and pressed quite firmly on my chest. I almost leaped off the couch with a yell and she said "yes, that's Costochondritis. - Sorry"
It did make me laugh though.
I had extreme pain in the same 10th rib but it was a slipping rib. I had to have it taken out because it was slipping under my 9th it did not show up on any imaging. I posted about it on this site. You can google slipping 10th rib.
