I went in for an MRI on my hip and insted they said they found :

bulky uterus and fluid filled lumen

I’ve googled this but can’t seem to find out what it is and can’t get an appointment with my doctor until next week.

Has anyone had this before?

I got have PCOS and bad periods and had lots of scans and MRIs and this has never showed up before so I’m just wondering if this is a new thing and what it really means

I’ve just had a look online, bulky uterus just means it’s enlarged, Lumen: A luminous term referring to the channel within a tube such as a blood vessel or to the cavity within a hollow organ such as the intestine. Lumen is a luminous term because it is Latin for light, including the light that comes through a window. Hope this helps a bit

I know what they mean but not what they actually mean if you understand. I know what a bulky uterus the other thing doesn’t really make sense, I’ll just see what the specialist says

I had another mri on my lumber and it came back saying I had a bulky uterus, apparently I’d had it on my first mri three years previously but no-one bothered telling me!

I have been given an internal scan but it hasn’t been explained to me.nobody seems concerned by it....well,except me!

Don't be concerned. It's not anything to worry about.

One of the things that has been happening as scanning equipment has got better, is that they keep finding things that if they didn't know where there, wouldn't have been a problem. So just because no one has ever mentioned it before doesn't mean to say that it is definitely a new thing, they might have just only recently noticed it.

the lumen is the cavity within a hollow organ, so the space inside the intestine, or a blood vessel or the uterus. So it sounds like you have some fluid in there, and a thickening of the uterus, but that is not diagnostic on its own, it is just a description. You will have to wait until you see the doctor to find out more about it. But if they thought it was really serious, you would have been asked to see a doctor immediately. A friend had findings from a scan recently and they arranged for her to see a doctor within 24 hours!

I am seeing my specialist that’s who I’ve been told to see they called last night after I got the report. I’m seeing one in the next week as the problem I went in for has nothing to do with gynaecology stuff so I had to be re-refered to the right place.

I know what it means but not what it means in terms of ttc etc as I had a miscarriage not long ago

Hi, it just means that your uterus is a bit larger than normal. This can be for several reasons such as fibroids, age, and just your general physiology. It's probably nothing to worry about but speak to your Dr to ask if they recommend a referal. They generally don't.
