Last month I was referred to bath hospital for pain management input program as I was rejected from St Thomas. I was told I would be waiting 4 months for the assessment letter not even the date but I came home from a hospital appointment here where I live today to find my assessment is next week😊
Honestly so happy and hopefully this will finally help me as 3 years of this pain and life at 28 is enough

I went on a course in Oxford. It was helpful. It depends on your expectations. It does not manage pain away. As I expected. What a shock that was, but it really is worth going on. Helped me get my head around it. And gave me permission to use the techniques they recommend for getting the best from life, because lets face it constant pain
"Is such a consumer of energy optimism and joy" as deejames sl succinctly put it. I at least didn't give that weight enough and thought with the right pill and determination I could be pain free. For some the reality is there is no pill. And no amount of mind over matter will put it in its box. Thier physiotherapists were a godsend though. I had gone for session at local hospital several times. But they really did t get the crhonic bit of pain.

Yeah that have a lot of good info and they sound great. I will try anything to even help me get a bit of life back .

Hoping that you can get some benefit from the Bath Pain techniques.....nothing ventured,nothing gained so I say,you are right in following up any avenues that may be of help to you.

It’s a 10 hour round journey for me though 😱 but luckily transport have got me a stretcher so I can lie down.

OMG....10 hour round trip you say... I'd be needing a stretcher too for that amount of time! Stupid question coming up......nowhere nearer to you because 10 hours is a mighty long journey and isn't easy for people who are fit and healthy? Just concerned that the stress of such a trip and back will do you more harm than good,but then I'm a total cynic!
I went to a pain clinic an hour from me ( that was the closest one) they couldn’t do any more for me so sent me to st Thomas in London that was a 6 hour round trip just travelling but I wasn’t accepted there as I wasn’t independent enough so the next best place is bath, I don’t care where it is as long as I’m getting the best care and help I can, if I get in I’ll have to stay there for 3 weeks anyway.
I can’t sit down anyway so stretcher is the only way I can go anywhere that isn’t within a 15-20 min range from my house lol

I too did the programme at Oxford and agree with everything that Nedd says. Oxford were also very quick with assessments but did have to wait about 3 months after that for the course. The staff there were very good and I understand their course is similar to the one in Bath which also has a very good reputation. Good Luck! Jo x

I thïnk I had to wait atleast 6 months. I quickly found the chapel and went for a lay down every lunch time. The hydrotherapy pool was fun.
These courses are good, but some times you need an ongoing hand on your back just to encourage you upward and onward. It's a shame gps don't provide a nurse led group session every month. I bounced the idea. But I think unfortunately they have a lot to deal with.
Although I do think it would keep a lot of us from thier door. There must be a number of us with differing pain issues. And that lead into depression when ongoing.
I am sure I read they only get about 5 hours Pain related training.
We could all help each other.

Luckily I’ve not let this get me depressed it’s just extremely painful and annoying lol I just need help handling it and after 3 years of useless doctors I welcome anything like this even if it means being away from my son for 3 weeks 😔
I personally wouldn’t go to a group thing if I was at home at all I don’t like group things like that but yes it would be a good idea for a lot but unfortunately with the NHS the state its in we have much more pressing matters
