What’s the highest dose of morphine?

I’m on 10mg/5ml of morphine and I was wondering if there’s any higher than that? I tried to google but nothing’s coming up. Thanks

Higher and stronger meds don't work...research has shown. Speak with your GP to see what he says.

Yes there are higher doses using a patients weight etc but reserved for palliative care

I'm on a much higher dose of morphine and I have no problems with them and it's not for palliative care and I have been on the same dose for over 4 years and it controls my pain still 10ml every 2 hours as and when I need it

Sometimes higher doses bring more problems. Maybe u can talk with ur doc about another option for u. Best of luck to u.

I’m on higher doses than what you’re on, but that was a plan discussed between my GP and myself. Hope you get better pain relief

Yeah I only wanted to talk to my GP about it I wouldn’t do it alone but thank you

Yes, as Banana says, higher doses don't necessarily work better. Everyone metabolises drugs differently and if a drug isn't working so well, it might be that it isn't the drug for you, rather than you needing a higher dose.

For instance the protocol that should be used when putting people on codeine is you try it at the lowest dose first. If that doesn't work for you, you don't raise the dose until it does, you stop codeine and find another drug that works.

Good luck with your conversation with the GP, I hope between you you can come up with something that works for you.

There is no real high or low dose as such, it all depends on various things like weight and the frequency or length of time, and dose how long you have been on it.

With my medications Opiates I increase/decrease the dose as the need arises. I also use various things that reduce my dose.

I would imagine it also depends on what condition a person is being treated for, as morphine is very additive. Morphine and Dilaudid are two of the most popular drugs they use when a person comes out of surgery, and for making critically ill, injured, or dying patients comfortable. Although, I do know it is prescribed for many other less life threatening conditions, it usually is in lower dosages and as a short term remedy only. Rarely for chronic pain. I don't know where you're from, but here the U.S., especially now with the new opioid law, we're lucky to get a controlled substance like fioricet, and even that they're limiting as to how many they will prescribe, and how often we can take it. Pretty soon the Doctor's will just be writing us prescriptions for glorified aspirins! Good grief!

I’m from the UK. I’m sorry that’s going to happen to you - our healthcare system is slowly but surely crashing and burning too. It’s scary, especially for those of us who truly need medication just to get by. If Aspirins actually worked we wouldn’t need any of the other pain meds!

LOL, exactly! It would be a lot cheaper too. Best wishes with your pain, and hope your gp is able to help you out!

Yes Lilrose92. I have been on 30 mg of ZOMORPH ev 6 hours for my Fibromyalgia pain. This is a slow release Morphia prescription. It is a big help, not completely effective but I couldn't manage without it. I have now been on it for about 18 months. It was originally prescribed by the Hospital Pain Clinic after I had unsuccessfully tried several drugs here in the UK via NHS. I am not alone in having to resort to this medication. Your 10 mg is a very small dose but you don't say how often you take itKind regards, HADES.
