Hi is it red and feels infected? If so you will probably need antibiotics to cure it. I know it's embarrassing but the best thing is to see your doctor and get some help. x

Yes and has a boil like appearance - gross!

You can help by 'drawing' it out. Water as hot as you can bear. Cotton wool. Soak cotton wool in hot water and place over boil

If it is ready it will burst but will certainly help the pain.

And see your GP.

x

Thank you.

Hi Dave not wanting to seem rude but is this in the bum cheeks and how painful is it. The reason I ask as my husband had something similar and it become agony. After going to a walk-in centre and they gave him an antibiotic cream.. which done nothing. He remained in agony so I went with him to a walk-in centre at the hospital. The first doctor came along and said that it was ok it was a boil and no treatment needed but luckily a specialist appeared and told the doctor to prepare my husband for surgery immediately. He has now had several ops on this and it’s called a fistula. Sorry that was a bit winded but I thought that you may have the same. Hope you are well soon x

This is something my research has told me. Oh my! I will try the hot water treatment today and if no joy GP here I come.

Hi Dave you don’t need just put boiling hot cotton wool on it. There’s another way as people suffer with a condition called hidradsnitis supportavia which is lots of these but also huge abscesses and the way to deal with all of them in those areas besides the usual personal hygiene routines is to run a shower head as hot as you can stand it for as long as you can stand it with the added trying to squeeze it out whilst shower head running hot on it. I advise that you allow the shower head to run on it a few mins first. The cotton wool and Drs is too far fetched as is the walk in centre which also is just time wasting and why our hospitals have long waits constantly. All you need do is run a very hot shower on it. Cotton wool is cooling within 10 seconds it’s freezing cold so it’s no use. Why dermatologist will always advise teenagers with pimples acne who on medications that hidradenitis sufferers on to use shower head and pressure and please don’t forget to keep squeezing at intervals as most will burst approx 3-5 times before you got all of it out. No use just doing it once and then giving up hot water run as hot as you can stand it not only open the pores u but also helps you not feel as much pain which is why I said let it run for few mins on it before trying.

Hi DaveyDave...

I had one of those on my butt cheek last summer, I first noticed it as painful and quite deep and felt like a solid golf ball under the skin—it was right where I sat, so it was impossible to sit for at least several days.

I knew right away it was probably due to my bi-weekly testosterone shots, since I was getting acne elsewhere I hadn’t seen since I was a teenager. I asked to doctor to switch me to testosterone gel, which has been much easier on my system and more balanced dosage.

My doctor treated it with antibiotics orally for several weeks, since it wasn’t advanced enough to do surgery to drain it. When it finally opened on its own I went back several times a week for nearly a month while the wound healed. The nurse showed me how to change the dressing, washing it with clean saline and using medical (Menuka) Honey to help it heal.

It wasn’t fun, but it did clear up and I’ve been able to sit down ever since.

There’s some pretty gross videos on YouTube, showing surgical procedures on cysts that never got treated, so my advice is like everyone else: get to the doctor, antibiotics to help shrink it, and hot sitz baths. Best wishes!

Thank you! D

Hi Dave,Do not use the hot water mate I tried it and it made it worse! See your Dr mention "Fistula" and he/she will sort it out, hopefully it's just a boil. Remember the carry on films?

"Nurse, I told you to prick his boil" made me laugh on the way to surgery

Why Thank you ! Very much appreciated, I find it is sometimes easier to try to bring some humour to a thread like this! My reference to the Carry on films is my rather "Crass" attempt at humour! And yes it's a rubbish reference! But the advice part is 100%!!

I do hope you were not commenting on that? I don't think it's very niçe!

Hi I have something called Hidradenitis Suppouritiva which is an infection which lives in the skin and causes boils and abscesses. Fortunately I am in remission now and have been for years.

Now I am not saying you have this but the treatment is the same. You need ab's to try and kill the infection. This may also make it go down on it's own. If it doesn't then you might need surgery to open it and drain the matter away.

Because it would only surface heal ie a thin layer of skin over a hole you would need to have it packed from the inside regularly in order for it to heal properly from the inside. This is important to stop permanent damage to your skin. x

Yep that's the wording, I've had my condition for 5 years, and not really had a quiet spell, it amazes me how I can go to bed and wake up with another one bubbling up underneath the skin, I've had surgery and I think the doctor has seen my bum more times than my face, so I'm not going any more as the antibiotics are now doing nothing, and eventually they do rupture, and without being knocked out for surgery they are absolute agony, so they are very persistent, and glad you're in remission at the moment, but no doubt your always on your guard, but if your like me you can feel them forming before they go into the bring tears to a grown man's eyes, embarrassing bodies or what!

Bread poultice should do the trick

As a regular with these blessed things I eventually had to have surgery, normally an abcess in that part of the body, sometimes an ingrowing hair can cause the problems, or if they become reoccurring a skin condition with a Latin name hydragenitus or sounds like that, can cause outbreaks anywhere, armpits, behind your ears, but don't be putting cream in them, possibly a course of antibiotics will do the trick, I've had surgery on my problematic area and unfortunately theres no guarantee that this is the end of the matter, my wound never heals properly, and ended up with them elsewhere, so I appreciate how delicate the subject is and how painful these are, so I suggest a trip down to the doctors and get the correct treatment, good luck.

OW, OW, OW......! DavyDave! I had a 'Pri-Anal' Abscess, 'Many Moons Ago'- long before I became Ill. I had to have it Drained, in Hospital. Even now, if I'm run down (or particularly Constipated) it can become Inflamed again.

The operation is not long, is done under General Aesthetic, so you won't feel a thing. Unfortunately you DO have to have it re-packed, once a day, after a few days. Take my word, for it, that you Will feel that! Don't worry too much though, the whole process is quite fast.

I hope antibiotics help you, so that you don't need surgery....

If you want more information, on this procedure, please do ask me DaveyDave.

Best wishes

Hi hun, I have Hidradinitus suppurativa (recurrent abscesses usually in the groin!) so know how painful it can be! If you can wash the area in Hibiscrub which you can get over the counter, keep all other fragranced soaps away! Another 2 things to try is Magnesium sulphate paste which will bring the boil to a head as will Vicks! Yes the stuff you use for a cold! It works!

Good luck hunni x x

You could try initially For quick relief ...Magnesium sulphate paste

Spread on a clean gauze dressing or even cotton wool and cover the boil maybe a covered hot water bottle to help the process and the heat should draw the pus out which will help you greatly I’d think

But think it’s also necessary to

Only do that till you get an appt at your doctors .. as it could get even worse .... and don’t worry

He’s seen worse than your behind .. be assured if THAT

GOOD LUCK
