Hi I have just been referred to a neurology due to pins and needles everywhere and numbness of leg. I have had a Mri of my brain and spine. I am still awaiting another physical tests and an follow up appointment back with neurology. My left breast now has a pain when lying face down or on my side along with a numb/very heavy upper left arm.

Would the mri on the spine show up anything about the breast???

hopefully someone can help

Hi MM1234

Sorry you’re experiencing so much pain. I had (still do occasionally) severe pain in L arm/shoulder for the past 8 yrs. Nothing organic could be found. Diagnosed by 3 separate GPS with fibromyalgia. Last 4 months started having severe aches in hips legs feet. Getting a Doppler Test. Discovered a leaking aortic valve 4 years ago. Have an annual echocardiogram... Not sure if any of these tests would benefit you?...Hope you feel much better soon. X

What you are worried about is called an incidentaloma. It is where something that they weren't looking for is found. If they find something like that, they will tell the patient. In fact that should have been part of the consent form, or they should have at least told you that they might find other things too.

However, pain isn't usually a first sign of something wrong with a breast, it is more likely to be related to why you are having pins and needles.

There is something called referred pain, where our brains think that the pain is being caused by something in the same area as we perceive the pain, when in fact it is being caused by something somewhere else. So it is likely that this pain and heaviness will be caused by what ever is causing the rest of the problems you are having.

So if they find an 'incidentaloma', then yes, they will tell you. Will a MRI of the spine include enough of the breast to show something, maybe not. But try not to worry right now, as this could all be caused by the same thing or even something completely different. Tell your doctor when you get the results of any new symptoms, as it might give a better picture of what is going on.

I hope the results come soon.

Hi there the MRI won't show anything on your breast, pain to breast will need further investigating and hopefully the appointment with a neurologist will his be you the answers you need. They prefer all tests are done so they can give you an answer and hopefully a plan of care . Good luck x
