My husband had a heart attack 8 weeks ago and has been left with 30% heart function.
Our life consists of hospital tests at the moment which are stressful for him as he has severe back pain and is only really comfortable lying down. We have found out he has a fracture in one of his vertebrae caused by CPR and our doctor has prescribed 2 Solpadol tablets 4 times a day. We are also trying acupuncture too.
The problem is he isn't eating very well at all and has begun sleeping nearly all day since starting the meds. Has anyone else had this happen and got any advice for us?

Hello m Marney34 and sorry to hear what has happened to your husband.
Solpadol is another name for cocodamol which is most effective as a pain relief med. He will be in a lot of pain at the moment and until his fracture heals I wouldn't worry.. The codeine will make him sleepy and often sleep is a good healer. It is the body's way f shutting down while repairing itself.
Pain can diminish appetite. Finding a comfy position too is often hard. So if he is lying down and not hurting then again I wouldn't worry.
Make sure he gets nutrition which can be obtained from small cartons of flavoured drinks available from your pharmacy. I can't remember their name as it has bee so long since I had them. But do ask.
Please make sure your pain killers are prescription only and controlled by your GP because opiates are very addictive and the longer you use them the more you need and NEVER stop suddenly..you might need stronger ones take all Dr advice they might make you feel sick your Dr can give you pills for that too..read the lable do not buy them over the counter..xx
