First time on Gabapentin

Hi Everyone!

On October last year I found out I had a cervical hearniated disc (slipped disc) and experiencing chronic pain everyday. It pushed me to make some changes like lifestyle modification and exercises, also I have been put on a lot of pain medications but none of them really worked well for me and today my Spine Surgeon suggested I try Gabapentin (Neurontin) for 3 months. I have done some research and I hope it works best for me.

Wish me luck!

Hi one of my sisters has severe osteoarthritis and says gabepentin is the pain killer that works best for her. She was on tramodol but has stopped that now.

She says it takes time to accumulate in the system and it can make you very sleepy at first, but if you can persevere hopefully it will help you.

It is a great drug!!!! It can knock you out! But it relaxes everything very well. I have been on it for a year. I have several other issues with spinal cord injuries. Plus MS. But there is nothing better than gabapentin for relaxing muscles and spasms. Good luck my friend!

It's takes a while for you body to process the new "normal" of it. Just be careful. Even when you get "used" to it. It can knock you out. It adds to any type of exhaustion you may have.

Take care my friend !

Best of luck! It worked very well for me for almost a decade. It's an old drug and well tolerated by many. Important to take on time regularly for maximum benefit. I truly hope it gives you the relief your looking for and allows you to work towards getting better.

Best ~

Hi I have been on gabapentin for 5 years now for lower back pain and leg pain. It certainly helps me. It doesn't take the pain away completely but it enables me to cope and walk. Good luck it is worth a try.

Hi Toni-Lou, I too must agree with everyone about Gabapentin. It is a wonderful drug for all over pain in the body suck as joint discomfort and muscle pain from Fibromyalgia. I also use it for hip and back pain. I am however on a very high dose because my spine and hips are a mess. I take 900mg 3x a day so if your strength don't work tell your doctor. They can go pretty high on dosage. When I first started it, I was a little drowsy but I have a very adaptable metabolism and it metabolizes drugs all thru the life of the drug quickly. Be very careful when starting it. Know what you feel like before driving or something like that. Your first drowsy and loopy symptoms should fade away pretty quickly. Good Luck.
