hip Replacement hi you guys has anyone ever had one im terrified 😒 and i have been dealing with this thorn for 6 year never been in the hospital only to have my children never been under the knife plan on doing this in july 2017 keep me in your prayers😒💦😀

Hip replacements are widespread these days and you will be up and out after about 4 days As with any surgery under general anesthetic yes there are always risks. Your surgeon will have explained all that.

Recovery after is straightforward if you do as you are told! Clear strict instructions for what you can and can't do must be followed or hip pops out and surgeon wont be pleased.

And remember - that pain will be gone.

I havent experienced this myself so cant give first hand info,but my brother had a hip replaced a few months ago.

He chose to have the op under epidural anaesthetic as opposed to general as the revovery time is expected to be quicker.

He had the op around 2.30 one afternoon and was allowed out the following evening after they had got him out of bed and done various movements.

For a couple of weeks he stayed in the house and did the exercises he was given,and you really do have to stick to the recovery plan to the letter

He suffered for a long time with this hip and now he has a new lease of life,and most importantly he doesnt have the pain.

Its understandable that you are terrified,but these days its quite a routine operation.

Granted there are risks but this is the same with any anaesthetic,but you will have been told that at your consultations.

I have a friend that recently had one. The first thing she realised was that the pain in her hip which was now gone was worse than any pain from the surgery. Two weeks later she was 'walking gently around the garden' as per instructions, pushing her little electric lawn mower in front of her!

I never say good luck to someone who is going to have surgery, you don't want luck, you want precision and skill, and that is what you will get. What you do want is to have fun! The more relaxed you are the better it will be, so have fun, have a joke with the hospital staff, and relax!

Totally agree with other replies. I had one 5 years ago at 65 and it has been marvellous. You do have to do the exercises religiously and also he walking even if you don't feel like it and still have some pain. It is worth it in the end and I was back playing golf after 8 weeks. Good luck with the op.

Hi there,

I've had two, at a young age, and completely agree about epidural anaesthetic - both mine were epis rather than general. I hadn't been in hospital either other than having my son so was also terrified. After both ops I was up and about almost insanely quickly. I can't comment on pain relief cos I didn't have pain; mine was increasing general lack of mobility so took a very long time to get diagnosed (in a way I wish I'd had some pain cos I would have got them sorted sooner, by the time I saw the surgeon I had the worst hip deterioration he'd ever seen in someone my age - and he's a very experienced surgeon with many years practising).

I'm now deciding on what to have tattoo'd over my scars

Hi Everyone! I am new to this website. I saw your post on needing a hip replacement. I too have CMT. At 46 years of age I gave birth to a healthy beautiful baby girl. 6 months later, I was told I was going to need a hip replacement. Shortly after, at age 47 now, I had my right hip replaced. I can totally understand your feelings. It is a scary thought to have a major part of your body replaced. What was it going to be like after surgery? Was it going to hurt? How was that going to effect my walking? So many questions!!!! Now being on the other side, I can honestly say, it was the BEST thing I have ever done! It gave me my life back! I highly recommend it. You will ask yourself, why did I wait so long. You will be fine. FYI, I am now 52 & still feel great!! You'll be fine. Just make sure you have a dr. you can trust.😊👍👍

Im worried because i have waited so long and it bothers my whole leg at times Especially when it rains or cold wheather thank god i live in florida guys 😠😎 thanks for everyone's feedback it Definitely help's and i will keep informed when the hip surgery has taken place hopefully this summer trying to get my Ducks order,Before i can be out of work that long God bless you all
