Pain Clinic recommendation

Yesterday afternoon we had to call an ambulance for Dan as his pain became too severe for him to cope with and required morphine as nothing we had would work.

The hospital could do nothing more for him. Dr has recommended the Walton pain clinic in Liverpool. Has anyone been to this clinic?

Any recommendations on what to do next?

Hi wulfen1329 yes I have been to the Walton pain clinic it's a good place to go, I think the next step is go to u gp and get a referral to the Walton pain clinic they can help dan get the right meds that he needs.

Hi,

I have been referred to Walton for the same reason. Sadly their wait time is about 18 weeks from referral 😟.

However I am due to be seen next month so I am happy to let you how things go and what they recommend.

I have been told they are the best in the country and I will be seen by a pain clinic Dr, a physiotherapist, occupational health and a psychologist. For the first appointment I need to be there for 8.30am and have been told appointment will last until at least 12.30.

Anyway hope this helps a bit and as I say I am happy to let you know how things go once I have been just let me know.

How did the appointment go? We are still living in hell here and pushing for a referral.

Hi,

The appointment went ok. I was seen by the psychologist, physio, consultant and occupational health. The idea was they each saw me to decided whether I was suited to one of the Pain Management programmes. For me they decided I am to go on the intensive 6 week programme but I've been told that the programme is solely to help me lean how to manage the pain. No medications will be prescribed by them.

I start the course on Monday so will know more after it.

I must admit I'm not sure how I feel as I had hoped for myself I would get more of a solution rather than management of my pain. However I'm willing to try anything and I've been told they get great results.

Thankyou for the update. So how does the course work? Do you need to attend appointments once a week?

There are different courses depending on what they feel people need.

I am on the intensive one which is 6 weeks long. It's 4 days for the first two weeks and then 2 days for the following 4 weeks. We have to agree to attend every session, you can even miss one for other hospital appointments.

I am told the days will be made up of therapy, psychology and physio and that the physio contains things such as Pilates and Hydro therapy.
