Hi,
Can anyone recommend any exercises for this joint.
Has anyone had a fusion , which device was used and what was the consultants name. Ideally I'm looking for recommendations.
Prepared to travel the whole of Uk
Thanks

Much has been written on this forum about sij. It might be helpful for you to type SIJ in the box top right and all the posts will come up....it says search pain concern. You can have a wander through and sure you will find answers.
Good Luck

I would go down the exercise route before considering surgery. It's a massive step.
The main thing is to strengthen your glutial muscles as well as your core musclesI can pass on the information my chiropractor gives me but ideally you need to see someone yourself.
If your muscles not not used to it or you have been semi immobile it will take a long time but worth it in the end.
I've had one type of surgery and prepared for it for months before by exercising several times a day just to give my body the best chance. As t is my recovery is slow and the gluteal muscles are considerably weakened.
Message me if you have questions and as Pat suggests do a search on the site for posts that are related

Would you be so kind as to send me a message about where you've had it fused and your experience.
I've had multiple courses of physio, hydrotherapy, graded exercise, injections, pulsed denervation and radiofrequency denervation over the last 5 years, so I'm not rushing things - surgery is a last' resort
Firstly what kind of response did you have to the steroid injections ? Relief for any length of time is a good indicator that fusion might be beneficial. The kind of fusion I had is called Sibone and it comes from the States. Do a search for the company, its easy to find and within the web site there is a section called find a surgeon near you. They have surgeons all over the world and some in Britain. I had mine done in Glasgow but that is the only place in Scotland so they are not numerous. Someone will get back to you and provide contact names.
I had an initial private consultation who then agreed to see me on the NHS as he doesn't do private surgery of this type. Its been a long process to have the operation and a long hard recovery time that is not over by a long way.
Best to do your research but I wouldn't believe all the glowing testimonials of being up and walking without pain after a few weeks !

I too have gone down this route as I was in so much pain - and to see somebody on NHS waiting list was like 12 months at least before- I was with the insurance company penny in the pound which paid for my consultation and the consultant did the same for me as yours did. It wasn't the same condition that you had but I wasn't sleeping as I couldn't get comfortable-getting up and going to work was a nightmare.
I must admit that I did feel guilty 'jumping the queue' so to speak but if had carried on any longer I could have lost my job so I had no choice - I didn't receive an appt for NHS well after the op in fact it was 12 months and that was only to see the consultant so would have been even longer waiting for op.
I wish you a speedy recovery and you are soon feeling well take care 😘😘😘
Thanks for the reply, so was this also SI joint fusion ?
If you can recommend your doctor could you PM their name and total cost privately.
I would be incredibly grateful if you would.
Local injection - 70 percent reduction for 2 days.
Pulsed radiofrequency 25-33% reduction for 8 weeks.
Denervation as above but only for 12 weeks. Had done about 3 - 4 times.
Not quite sure what you mean by local injections. I am tali g about the one where steroid is injected into your joint.

There are exercises for SI joint dysfunction on you tube. They are the same as my physiotherapist and chiropractor advised. I do them every morning, plus hydrotherapy, but I'm still in great pain standing and sitting. Would love a fusion but it doesn't seem to be done in the UK. I've searched via surgeons associations, but I may have missed someone. If you find one let me know! Lots of information on you tube about fusion, and the SI injection which I will be having in 2 weeks.
Try the exercises first if you haven't, if they haven't worked ask about the injection or denervation. Fusion seems to be carried out in the US, hopefully won't be long before it's in the UK too.
Please can you be a bit more specific.
Read "Born to Walk: Myofascial Efficiency and the Body in Movement" by James Earl.
Everything I thought I knew about muscle functioning and joints is being turned on its head at the moment. There is a new meme on "Fascia" coming online and its importance in pain and body functioning. I am still trying to get my head around it. The subject is too new for many medical consultants to have a grasp of. Fascia was bits they threw away as they did their medical dissections in training.
You have a great deal of interest in how to reduce body discomfort. This is why I recommended the book. The book will give a different understanding as how the body works as a whole.
Hi si Joint i Ho to aqua Aerobics at the ymca Good for you would help
Hi Stokebones you also need to research the cost to you as our prices for private healthcare are quite high as I believe you wouldnt qualify for consultation or surgery on NHS as you don't contribute to our NHS system. Wish you all the best and hope you find something to ease your pain. 😘
Excuse me ??? I've contributed many years by paying my taxes and NI, and only got 2 years of the lowest rate PIP at £20 something a week, that is all the benefits I've ever had or claimed for.
In fact I'm even employed by an NHS trust.
I just don't want to wait and want to see the surgeon of my choice - so unless it's going to be 30k plus I will look at doing it privately.
Sorry stokebones for upsetting you I thought you were writing from another country and not uk - I need to go to spec savers or it's Fibro fog.
If you read my reply to another of our Fibro peeps - think the only thing open to you is to go down the route I had to take - find out from your GP who would be best consultant to see for your condition and take it from there. If you decide to research another consultant be careful as you will probably be aware there are a lot of people out there who just want your dosh. I do wish you the best of luck and hope you get it sorted soon. Take care 😘😘😘
Thanks
Hi , I ve had an SI joint fusion in November 2014 , The procedure was called the Diana technique, not a pleasant procedure by any means and a long recovery, however 2years down the line I am physically much better. 12 weeks on crutches to start with as u are not allowed to weight bare , lots of physio , noticed a big difference after about a year . For me it had been a success but still have days when you do get pain , all you can do is lots of research and think long and hard before you decide, I had no choice in the end .good luck .
I would like to thank everyone for their PM's and messages unfortunately my PM function doesn't work.
