Has anyone had either Radio frequency ablation or Pulsed Radio Frequency pain treatment and if so did it work well for your pain? I have heard that different NHS regions have restrictions on this treatment because of costs. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

In the oxford hospitals they do the normal pain injections first then if you respond well to those you are a good candidate for radiofrequency injections. I had them all but non of them lasted long enough to make it worthwhile so I no longer bother. With some people it can last for a year or more so it's worth a try.
Hi Thank you for your relpy. I hope that I can get this treatment and that it doesn't too long, however i can see that after I have injections in August I will have to wait too see if they work, they wait for a follow up, then wait for further treatment, probably I reckon 3-4 months!!!! Oh joy.
Yes and yes. It took the best part of a year to get through trying the steroid injections first to see which levels were the worst pain generators and then on to the ablation. I have been able to give up NSAIDs I've been taking for 17 years so an excellent result but I'm still in pain but I feel better in myself due to less medication. You need to find a good operator though as it really does depend on the skill of the person doing the jabs in my view.. Best wishes 🍀🍀
Hi , thank you for your response. It is good to know that it worked well for you. When I first developed chronic pain over 10 years ago I had injections in my groin and facet joint injections and some form of electrical frequency run through my spine and it work really well. However i cannot remember what type of treatment it was, but I am trying to find out. I feel that the combination of these treatments are my best shot of reducing my pain and regaining some quality of life.
I am also trying to find out how much it would all cost privately, as a friend of my family might help me.
I've had nerve root injections and pulsed radio frequency but neither worked. Also surgery twice on prolapsed discs but now have failed back surgery syndrome. I was offered a high frequency spinal cord stimulator and had 2 leads with 16 electrodes inserted in November 2015 for bilateral sciatica from back to both feet. I have had some relief from over 5 years of constant pain. I have needed it reprogrammed quite a few times. Worth talking it over with your pain consultant.
It might cause other problems burning nerves. It did me. The doctor burned the nerves on my left side of spine. Now I have difficulty sleeping on my left side. I feel weaker now than what I use too and have to ly down more. My advice...don't .
