Reducing prednisalone
Hi Shandon1
Your RheumyCon is right to suggest you 'wean' yourself off Prednisalone, this drug appears to have been wrongly prescribed in my case, and the over-dose has resulted In a split personality. I am 'nice and monster' pleasant and loving, or bullying and dominating. There, what an admission !
Don't come off quickly, but I would suggest less than two months, more like two/three weeks. Slowly reduce your dose, try cutting tablets in half, doesn't need to be accurate. Go from 3mg/day to 2.5mg for four days, then 2mg for four days. At this point, you need to stop, and see how you are feeling.
If still too anxious, then stay at 2mg for longer, remember, you are making the changes not your GP.
Only you can decide when it is 'OK' to reduce. I know I'm said two weeks, but this is really dependant o how you cope with lower levels. Only you can judge when you can lower the dose, always remember, you can increase back to the previous level anytime you need to. It's a hard path, been there, so know how brave you have to be each time you reduce.
No more now, you need to think about what I have suggested, only you can make changes, and only when you feel comfortable.
I now have 'pins & needles plus numb pain' in my fingers from holding my iPad as I reply. It doesn't matter, because supporting you gives me a reason to cope.
I really wish you all the best, I know how you are suffering, how slow NHS help is in coming. Hopefully some of the above is helpful, but always here if you need help.
