Do you realise how few Scots can speak or understand Gaelic ? Fewer and fewer despite the huge sums of money being pumped into it.

But thanks for your good wishes.

Yes it is a shame, I live in Skegness, War was on and I was born up there. Love the country. My greatest wish and dream is to go to a real ceilidh at Hogmanay. Too disabled to dance now but do have a Celtic harp and my cups from the Modhs. Now I have spelt that wrong.

I had Scottish Lowers back in 1960 in Gaelic as I belonged to the London Gaelic choir. Scottish dancing etc. I have lost most of it now. Can remember a few bits like Happy Christmas etc and still have my tutorial books. It is nice to greet people though in the proper language. Even for just one day.

Oops you got me wrong. The language may be historically interesting but it is dying and I don't feel the amount of money invested is worth it especially in education where other areas just as if not more valid are going short. There has been lots of money invested in road and street signs that hardly anyone can read and have no value. I don't believe there is a single person left in Scotland who can only speak and read Gaelic. It is very sad when a language does but I'm afraid there is just not enough interest in it among the main population. As a result it disappears.

But there is lots more to love about scotland.

Still nice to share the one day but I agree it is sad. I think the High School on Skye does a lot to promote it. I will see you next year. We shall share again. Glennis in Skegness Lincs
