Hi Kagz - I don't want to worry you but if you think sciatica might be affecting your bladder you do need to speak to a doctor soon. This can become very serious so it's best to get it sorted before it does! I know someone who became seriously ill when his trapped nerve (sciatica) caused him bladder problems. Please do speak to your doctor soon about this. The physio too might be able to work on it to release the nerve.

Oh right ok, the physio hasnt done anything hands on just felt round my but to see were pain is,I am too sore for them to do anything else even lifting my leg up slightly gives me so much pain, I will be going to physio on wed so will mention it. X

I agree! Get to the doctors sooner rather than later.

It gets grotty when you leave things. I ended up with terrible infections, an overstretched bladder that was huge and now because I don't feel when it's full I have to catheterise myself 4 times a day. It may sound yucky but it's really quite easy and simple to do.

Don't be surprised if they check other areas of interest on the 'saddle' area.

All the nerves seem to work a variety of functions In the same area.

You have lost nothing by getting checked.

I certainly will, sounds really bad for u having to do that.x

If you think your bladder is being affected at all by sciatica or any kind of lower back injury, then please report it to your doctor immediately. There is a small possibility that it could be a red flag symptom for cauda equina syndrome, and if so, that needs surgical treatment immediately to avoid the possibility of permanent spinal cord injury. It may not be that, but your doctor needs to consider the possibility.

See a chiropractor. It may be possible that both problems are caused by pressure on nerves. A McTimony chiropractor should be able to confirm whether this is true or not and do something about it.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice but there is no way my doc wud refer me to a chiropractor x

Thanks for the reply. There is a need for the recognition that one sometimes needs to pay for treatment that helps.

Look at the NICE recommendations with regard to chiropractic and osteopathic.

I pay for some of my medical treatment because there is no way that I could get it on the NHS. What I pay for is effective.

Thanks but I work have 2 children carnt afford a holiday never mind private treatment so thats a no no thanks anyway x

Hello,

I can only emphasise the advice to see your Doctor sooner rather than later. If it gets worse then do not hesitate to go to A&E to seek their advice. I have sciatica and was told to do this if it affected bowel or bladder.

Best regards,

Dave

I personally wouldn't go near a chiropractor with those problems - too much risk of permanent paralysis if a manipulation makes a disc herniation worse, or impinges a nerve even more. I used to live in another country and even physios wouldn't touch backs or necks without seeing a recent xray to make sure there wasn't going to be any risk of spinal cord damage.
