The surgeon has referred me to the pain mgt. Current meds are not effective and has horrific side effects. I am numb just now as I don't know what the future holds :(

I felt like that when I got referred to pain management. It felt like I had been given up on. But this isn't the case. Pain management can be very good. Go with an open mind and try whatever they suggest. The first thing you try might not make any difference so be prepared for it to take a while. I know you probably want a quick fix, but dealing with chronic pain isn't like that.

If you can stick with it, you will get there in the end.

Good luck

Thanks teadrinker, will go with an open mind, quick fix will not last, so slow steady progress is the best way forward.it sure is a hard wake up call though.

Oh dear. You do sound so totally fed up. One very god plus is going to the pain management. Have you ben before or is his your first time? I'm a hugest fan. No magic wands bit a bit or trial to get neds which suit you and alternative therapy too. Acupuncture which always makes me go to sleep! Physio - you go in with a bad back and come out limping/ Pacing yourself, toms of leaflets and lashings of care, kindness and understanding.

Always here if you need another grump.

Thanks so much pat, yes pretty much fed up.I have been to pain management before a good few years back.I hope the meds will be tailored to suit me, like you said, will try the alternative therapy as well, got nothing to loose now that the surgeon has said he can't help. The one positive is that i can discount surgery as a way forward. I am coming to terms with that, though extremely difficult.

Thanks again Pat.

Cheers

Pain specialists have a lot of tricks up their sleeves to relieve pain. There are

machines and different kinds of drugs as well as therapists to work out the knots..

They are tons better at fixing pain than the doctors who also treat the pain.

We tried prescription meds for my 16 yr old daughter after the over the counter gave her an ulster. They didn't work. We started acupuncture 3wks ago and it seems to be working. She gets a bad headache the day after the treatment but the rest of the week she doesn't have any pain. It's amazing, going from constant everyday pain to almost nothing.

Good luck Dear.
