Lumbar Sympathetic Denervation- terrible back pain

I had a lumbar sympathetic denervation last Tuesday (5 days ago), this is after having multiple sympathetic lumbar blocks; they haven't worked successfully. I'm having the worst back pain I've ever had before- I can't turn my head without pain running down my spine and into my lower back. I understand that the nerves have been messed with and will be on alert etc, so I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same procedure, just so they could possibly give me an indication of time for how long I will have this terrible back pain for.

Hello

Generally it may take a while before you may get the full relief.

I you are really concerned go see your GP he will attend to the pains you are suffering, Did the hospital not explain how long it would take to show some form of relief

Hi, thanks for replying so quickly! I was expecting my back to be in pain afterwards- It'd be silly not to expect some discomfort, but not this kind of pain. As the week has progressed it's intensified; the consultant kind of rushed the whole briefing of the procedure, rushing me into signing the consent form etc, so I didn't get time to think about it really! But thank you again!

Hello Annabelle

If you are not happy and in so much pain, bend the GP ear. as no-one, needs to suffer these days.

He will be able to up the pain medications on a short term basis,

Good Luck

Hi Annabelle I had the same procedure done 4 weeks ago and I have had the same problem. I contacted the hospital to ask if it is normal and they assure me that it is and to up my pain meds! Done that and sure enough it is a lot better of course! Thing is I am now walking 2-3 miles every other day and cycling which I could not do before even with the Oramorph. Just as an observation I had this done 10 years ago and did not have any pain afterwards neither did I have any change in how I was so hopefully the old saying no pain no gain is probably true?

Good luck and I hope it works out for you

I had the nerve blocker shots and they never helped so I stopped and they put me on a pain patch, which helped but I'm allergic to adhesive. Hope this helps you sweetheart!!! xxx Mitzi
