Hi I have been look around for any complementary therapy that I have not tried and I came across Acupressure Taping.

Has anyone tried anything like this?

I have used Accupuncture in the past but I cannot afford to maintain it and so I am searching for something that I can do myself.

Hello there, Yes, I know of this Therapy and it would certainly help you. As you say, you can learn to do it yourself to minimize costs.

All the best, and I hope it works for you.

Hi I have not heard of this but I think any alternatives to surgery and needles is great news if it helps, I had reflextherapy which is not unlike reflexology but it is different and I got huge results with it, yes it cost money but now the GP's hold there own buget if you find a treatment that works You could ask if they could fund it as its in their best interests to embrace new treatments etc worth a go you just need some evidence as I did and then get funding so you might have to fund it yourself for a few months and make detailed notes on its beifits to you. i hope that helps

I gota year of reflextheraphy on the NHS because of it, but then she retired and there was no-one to take her place and so I am back to square one.

Thank-you both for you positive and informative replies.

I responded well to acupuncture but it has cost me thousands of pounds over the past 20 years to have private treatment including physiotherapy, chiropractic, reflexology, cupping, TENS, homeopathy, herbalism....anyway you get the idea! This is a new one for me so I have decided to give it a try.

I will contact my physio, who also does acupuncture to get some idea of how and where to apply to the correct points and she can give me some treatment to get me off to a good start.

Even if it just brings some relief so that I can reduce some meds enough to be able to drive again will be great. Once I know where to put the tapes, I figure hubby will need to help, I will keep a diary on my progress.

Thanks again guys, I wish you well on your journeys into managing your own pain.

Here in Yorkshire the sun is shining so I will try and make the most of the fine weather, I hope you both can too.

Yes of course I will let you know how I get on with it. It will take a few days as I need to wait for the delivery of the tape and also I need to arrange to see my physio, so please don't think I have forgotten.

Take care, enjoy the good weather

Hi Calceolaria,

You asked me to get back to you about the Acupressure Taping.

Day 1 of applying the tape was done after I had Acupuncture. On the days before having therapy my pain levels were so high I was lying flat drugged up on morphine. I had been like this for 4 weeks. After acupuncture my therapist applied the tape. Immediately after treatment I was pain free which is normal for me after acupuncture, so cannot attribute the tape to this. A couple of hours later my pain levels went through the roof and all my limbs felt heavy so back to bed.

Day 2 I feel much better and get up and potter around the house. Morphine intake reduced by about 25% the information leaflet says the tape will stay on for about 7 days humph! It started to peel off after a shower so hubby put on some more.

Days 3,4, the same.

Today is day 5 and my Morphine intake is back to where it was 100mg per day. I also wear 75mg Duragesic and take diclofenac, paracetamol and venlafaxine. I am also taking Pregabalin 300mg per day but this drug has too many side effects and no effect on the pain at all so will be stopped. I have been taking this drug for 4 weeks.

I am still using the tape along with Lidocaine patches. Now I would like to say that the patches worked on their own but they only work on the compressed nerve pain, I have been using these for a number of months. I have recently been diagnosed with Spondylosis, which is causing the shooting, burning pains in both legs and I cannot stand upright. Since the acupuncture and taping I am managing to potter around at home.

I am sorry if I have rambled on a bit. I cannot say yet whether or not the taping is responsible for any improvement or indeed if the acupuncture is but if I can eventually get back to work then I will continue with this treatment. I am hoping the taping will prolong the acupuncture treatment!

Do you want me to continue to let you know how the treatment goes?

Take care

Sue

Hi. This was new to me. So I went surfing and found this link.

thrivingnow.com/tapping-poi...

It looks interesting.

Sometimes I dig my nails between thumb and forefinger either side of my hand. It helps sometimes but better still is placing the tens pads here. Good luck.
