my pain doctor mentioned a drug I could take for nerve pain, it started with an M and has to be imported and I would probably have to pay for it myself and it would cost about £150 per month does anyone know anything about it and what its called I know its a long shot but worth a try, I have left a message for him to let me know

No idea but why should you be expected to pay for it?

I don't think you can get it on NHS, but I will try

Viv

Hello

No idea here all I can advise it have a word with your Practice and confirm name for you.

Also have words again with pain management,if they have failed to tell your GP

If it is a new medication you may find it on internet, also try NHS Choices they may help on drugs A-Z.

You could also try NICE on their site, although you need to know the name, new drug lists are a mile long

All the best

Perhaps it is in fact, ketamine ? You might have remembered the M bit best ? See post above about this. Issues could be that this drug is more widely known as KitKat or Meow Meow as kids wanting a buzz have been taking street version of it. Recently reported as very effective for pain but not sure it was being used in UK yet.

I think you might be right maybe I will see how I get on with lidocaine first and have a chat about it with my pain man

If anyone has watched Hugh Laurie play Dr House in the American TV series, there was an episode about ketamine. House suffers from cp and undergoes ketamine infusion. Just thought I'd mention it. :)
