Hi Calceolaria, that's my second... My absolute least favourite is actually showering/bathing. It is difficult and I slip/fall getting into and out of the shower/bath.

Totally understand though - and love your description - "A bundle of hay and pitchfork" brilliant :)

Yes no-one, getting ready in the morning just takes ages. The days of leaping joyfully out of bed are gone. Or maybe I never did that !! Lol !

I have found an amazing vac, cordless, light as a feather but a powerful sucker, sorry ! It's like a Ewbank but like nuclear-powered. G-tech AirRam everyone, if you're ready for a new one.

No-one, we replaced our bath with a walk in shower and what a difference, instant independence. No need to have someone there to help me in and out. And no fear of falling. I've not got space in the room to have a stool to sit on on wobbly days.

I have outsourced many household tasks to the family. There are some I do but they are in response to pain and not necessarily because they need doing. shoulder starts seizing up = a hard floor gets washed by hand. The stetching back and forth movement slowly loosens the shoulder. Stiff back = walking and sweeping hard floors.

The bed thing. I often give up trying to put a duvet cover on, and just use a flat sheet underneath it. The bed is covered with a quilt in the day so it doesn't really matter. I use corner sheets on the mattress but one size bigger, so I can do each corner and it stays in place.

Hoovering. Do this on my knees with a pilates tummy. Low centre of gravity means less strain on back. Greater suction too as the pole is removed.

I feel my most struggle is getting out off bed....as I know that it will probably be the same day as yesterday and the day before etc etc....

I just feel at a loss the now, everything feels like a life time...

I hope you do. The NHS is made of people, run for people. Don't let that knock your self-esteem.

Hello

The worst for me is watching someone doing chores that I could have undertaken, before I was disabled. Wondering what would happen If I lost my carer and wife.

Yip, totally agree with them last few comments.... my wife is my carer, I would be lost without her....

All off my DLA, is up for review in nov, will probably loose it all, except the care of my loving wife.... she's not like the NHS docs, she doesn't give in on those who are in need...

I've had a lifetime of struggle with a congenital hip, finally at the age of 47 I had to give in and have a total hip replacement this was to be a new lease of life to me! The only warning was NOT to lengthen my leg from a professor, you guessed it the surgeon in his wisdom ignored that fact and lengthened my leg which has now left me in chronic pain from my back down. It's so frustrating having to have someone in to do even the simplest of things that in a previous life I'd do in the blink of an eye, thank heavens for my wonderful wife without whom I'd be lost! Just like to say a BIG THANK YOU to her and all the unpaid carer's out there!

Changing the duvet, only 5ft tall and also have asthma so I feel like I've gone 10 rounds with a wriggly snake & then I think I need a lie down afterwards except that would then mess the bed up and it all starts over again, I know I can get my other half to do it, but he never does it properly. my morning routine of pills, puffer and eyedrops. I have got a method but it just means everything takes so long, chores for 15-30 mins rest for 30 to 60 mins depending on my breathing and pain factor! :)
