Have had blood clots and on warfarin for life, ... - My Ovacome
Have had blood clots and on warfarin for life, having scan tomorrow to check not cancer again as i had blood clotting last time.
Hi Jenny,
I am sorry I am not much help on blood clots but I am sure there is someone on here that can help...if not you can always ring the helpline and speak to Ruth Payne tel 0845 371 3554 wishing you all the best love x G x
sorry I just read it again and realised you are having a scan..you won't get the results straight away...if it is a recurrence I suppose it depends on how long you have been in remission...if it has been a while ie over six months and you responded well to the chemo then they might give you the same again...I have had a recurrence and went on the same chemo again...best wishes x G x
thank you Gwyn may ring help line for advice,
I answered again at the same time as you sorry xx

Lost my hair twice now..not as bad as you might think...except for when you look in the mirror haha...there are up sides as well...and I loved my wig the second time around... now I know people will say otherwise... but I didn't like mine the first time either but the second time... I am a little older and wiser (I hope) and got over a lot of hurdles (I can give you tips if the need arises) I still have very short hair and don't like it much but I am getting there love x G x

Hi Jenny,
I had pulmonary embolisms when I was diagnosed with Stage 1V Ovarian Cancer over 13 years ago. I was told (at that time), that I would be on Coumadin for life. Even while taking Coumadin, I developed a DVT behind my left knee (painful).
That was the least of my problems because in all likelihood my life was not going to be a long one, so I didn't worry about the blood clot issue much. However, when I'd finished my last chemo (Taxol and Carboplatin) the gyn / Onc said, "You are "disease free". So I said, "Well, what about the Coumadin - do I have to continue taking it?" He floored me when he said, "No you can stop!" So here was one case when things can and did change (for the better).
When I had Taxol / Carbo, I certainly lost my hair, but that wasn't such a catastrophe. My wig was gorgeous (smooth and straight) - better than my own thin, frizzy mane. I had few side effects from the chemo and hardly suffered at all, I was very lucky so I cannot complain.
Good luck Jenny - try not to worry too much, OK? Will be thinking of you.
Sandy.
Hi Jenny, you have just given me some hope, I was told on Tues I had stage 4 OC and to see that you were pronounced disease free is wonderful. I am on Carbo/Taxol with practically no side effects , tiredness and constipation that is under control, hair loss, which was no great loss, hoping for better when it starts to grow, I have also felt extremely well since the treatment started I also had TAH 6wks ago and made a great recovery so you have cheered me up no end. Long may it last.
Hope you are in good health
Best wishes
Chris xx
Thanks Sandy like you even on warfarin I know I still have blood clots one on my ankle one in my arm pit and one behind my knee so bl--dy painfull.told my GP yesturday said warfarine would desolve them? where did you get your wig from? take care love Jennyxx
Hi Jenny,
Yes, blood clots are very painful, in fact the one I had behind my knee was the only pain I had during my cancer ordeal. I never had pain with the cancer (go figure?)
I bought my wig from a tiny store that was quite close to the hospital. I live in Canada, so It wont be much help to you (I don't think God luck with your scans.
Take care ... Sandy.
Same here no pain with cancer chemo or operation. but boy blood clots are agony have one in side my right elbow as I write even warfarin not desolving them, Told doctor when had three one behind knee one under my arm and on my ankle but just said warfarin will get them? beginning to question it now nurses not heard of it before so I really am unique as my darling husband tells me lol thanks for reply Jennyxx

Thanks Ruth saw my Doctor on Thursday assured me the warfarin will zap all clots? but i now have one inside my right elbow, the ankle underarm and knee going and less painfull now.I will let you know scan results on Thursday.Thankyou for getting in touch Jenny x
Hi Jenny,
When I got the second blood clot (as mentioned before, behind the knee, even while on Coumadin) ..... my Dr, after consulting with my Gyn/Onc, prescribed a daily injection of Fragmin - for a week, which did cause the clot to dissolve very quickly. So, in my case, the Coumadin (Warfarin) was not enough to zap the clots.
I hope you get a fast resolve to this issue because when the blood clots were found in my lungs, described by my Dr as, 'massive pulmonary embolisms', my Dr added that it was 'life threatening'. Except for the fact that I was a bit breathless (that I hadn't even noticed, just thought I was 'out of shape') - there was no pain or discomfort from the them, but the one behind my knee was excruciating!
Good Luck Jenny - thinking of you as you face these hiccoughs in the road of recovery. I know it must be very scary for you, but there is light at the end of the tunnel, because look at me, I'm still here!
Sandy.
Oh thanks Sandy your same as me re experience blood clots ,saw my doc. last evening said use injections to zap new blood clots feels better today, what makes me wonder is why warfarin did not touch them. stupid warfarin nurse does not have a clue? what to put me on INR up to 3.8 should be 2.5 but did not reduce mg wishing you all the best Jenny
