Hi Shaun,

I am so sorry to hear about your mum... welcome to the site you will get a lot of support on here...you can even ring the ovacome helpline if you have questions you need answering they are only there on weekdays and this weekend is a bank holiday you can speak to the Ovacome nurse Ruth Payne tel 0845 371 0554 ( office hours)

I do think that chemo will help.. Sometimes it is palliative to ease pain or to shrink tumours there are people on here that have had chemo and found that even though they weren't going to operate it worked that well...that they did operate so there are things that can be done and please don't give up...you will find plenty of success stories on here..and you will certainly get support my thoughts are with you and your mum love and best wishes x G x

Hi Shaun

I'm sure they will have prescribed the treatment that will give your Mom the very best chance of getting healthier. the newest way of treating OC is that they often give chemo to shrink the tumour and then operate after about three or four rounds of chemo. If it helps to talk to someone who is really in the know, ring Ruth on 0845 371 0554 between 10 and 5 tomorrow. It's the Ovacome nurse helpline and they're brilliant at info and giving you some help in understanding what might be going on. It's only open weekdays though, and there's a bank Hol coming up. The chemo will control the spread of any cancer cells too and should help to make your Mom more comfortable. How is she taking all this? It's such a shock when this happens, but there is great support on here and on the Ovacome website, where there is a lot of other info.

Good luck to your Mom and to the family who are supporting her

Love Wendy xx

my mom is being brave and trying not to upset the younger family members, bless thats how she works, she feels with it being 2 yrs old and spread to where the surgeon cant get she only has weeks left, but does this sound familiar to anyone, its not in her liver yet,but she had over 13 litres drained of ascites, she still has an appetite and even picked a horse out to have a bet on which she has never done, thanks for your reply xx

You never know what's in store, Shaun. There are many women who keep going even after the sort of diagnosis your Mom has had. Keep believing in miracles. Let us know how she is doing and send a hug to her

Love Wendy xx

I am the same as your mum I wasn't operated on and had carbo/taxol unfortunately it did return after 6 months and I have just finished second line chemo, really hoping this will work for longer. I was told they would not operate due to cancer cells on my liver. In saying all this ladies who have been operated still seem to have a return of this horrible disease. Good luck to your mum all onc seem to have different views. Just hang in there who knows new treatments could be on the way. Love and hugs x

Hi Nikki9

I too am in a similar position to you I starfted on carbol/taxol after op but had a bad reaction to the chemo. Had a scan end of July only to find it was on my liver. The oncologist has now put me on Topcotecan - so far had two treatments which have been given weekly, just hope and pray this will help, know it wont cure. The one positive thing, I have been extremely well and able to do what I would normally do. So its living with this horrible disease and living each day to the full.

Best Wishes X

god bless you nikki,as said, hang on in there too,xx

Hi Gwyn... I'd had cancer for a considerable period of time before I was diagnosed. I had ascites at the time of admission to hospital. i was in for 18 days and was told I had cancer on day 16 when the test results on the fluid in the abdomen came back. I was stunned at first as I was told that this disease won't go away because of the stage I'm at. However, having chemo has helped me to gain some control over my condition and has allowed me to do some things I was struggling with. It's no walk in the park by any means but I'm in a better position than I would have thought possible. My thoughts are with your mom, you and your family... x x
