It is 16 days since my mother had her operation and we still have not been advised of the pathology results. Should we read into this that the news is good or have others had experience of having to wait a number of weeks before receiving a diagnosis?

Is no news good news???
Hi Geralyn
I wasn't told the results of my pathology until my post op check up - two weeks after surgery.
I know some are told that it is cancer immediately after surgery but have to wait for stage and grade results.
The results should be in by now so you could always call the consultant and ask the question - you will then know what you are dealing with.
I hope that no news is good news and wish your Mum all the very best.
Becky
Dear Geralyn
Have you been given a date for the follow-up appointment after surgery? Mine was about six weeks after I was discharged. I was told to concentrate on making a good recovery and I think this was rather good advice.
I think it can be difficult waiting for the process to take its course. Perhaps you could just ring the hospital and check when the follow-up appointment will take place if you haven't heard already and that might be reassuring.
Let us know how things are going. Best wishes.
Hi there Geralyn ..
Here in Norfolk I was given an appt to see the surgeon for my results and check up before I came home after my op and the wait was two weeks .
Given them a ring re the appointment ..
Love Janet .
Hi Geralyn
Mine was about 6 weeks after my op, like Whippit's, but there was Christmas and New Year in between, when I had my op, and it was nearly ten years ago. The advice about giving yourself time to make a good recovery and in the meantime, try assuming that things will be under control. I know it's a long wait, but I always though that if there was any real big crisis, they would let me know sooner.
Good luck,
Love Wendy xx
Hi,
It took three weeks for my results following hysterectomy etc- was told with large samples they like to be thorough and test all the stuff and also if special stains are required to test for different tumour cell types it might take longer. I got a phone call from the consultants secretary to come in for appt straight away so I knew it wasn't good news!! Hope things are positive for your mum.

Hi
I was sent an appointment for about six weeks after surgery. My very rare tumour was actually sent to Belfast for anaylsis, so this things do appear to take time.
Try and just concentrate on getting your Mum over the op- I was so glad that I had begun to feel better before I was given the news.
Love
Anne
Hi, it was 3 weeks between my op and getting the results, they had promised to ring me after 2 weeks but they didn't so I had to chase them up (I had waited by the phone all day!). When I finally got hold of someone they said the results hadn't been ready so I had to wait another week. It was probably the toughest part of the whole cancer experience for me, it's no fun waiting, so it's great that you're there for your mum, keeping her company and helping her to pass the time.
Rachel
Thankyou all for your comments. We are still waiting. Apparently the consultant is on holiday at the minute and mum will get an appointment when she returns. So the wait continues!! Will let you know when we hear the outcome.

Hi Geralyn
Waiting is really really horrible but if you can try and get your Mum to take things as easy as she can.
Take care
