Leg pain Taxol

Has anyone experienced severe pain in their legs and feet after chemo. I've had 2 rounds of taxol/carbo and my shins and feet kill. The first time lasted about 4 days. This time longer. Any suggestions for easing the pain would help. I'm on painkillers but had a reaction to them paracetomol doesn't help much.

Hi Michelle

Sorry to hear you are having a lot of pain, I had a lot of pain as well I gave up on pain killers, but applied heat ie > hot water bottle/ hand warmers/ I bought an electric throw that worked wonders and have used it right through chemo on two lots so have really got my monies worth ( Ha!Ha! ) I got it from Argos but is cheaper on Amazon a nice brown fleece it has different heat settings and don't get as hot as a electric blanket it really is so comforting. Hope this helps.

Best Wishes Gwyneth

HI Michelle

I had two rounds of Taxol/Carbo and suffered with severe pain in my feet and shins. I also had pain in my fingers (so much that I couldn't hold a knife and fork or type on the computer). I had to come off the Taxol because of this and changed to Caelyx/Carbo. You should discuss your symptoms with your oncologist.

Best wishes

Sharon

Hi Michelle

I had awful pains from my hips down after carbo-taxol. I went for acupuncture to help, as I cant take brufen, and it sorted it out every time.

hope you feel better soon

Thanks ladies for all your suggestions, I wasn't sure whether heat or ice, but looking at the consensus, heat! I can handle most side effects, but the leg pain is just a bit too much. Good to have your support.

Hi,

I had this problem and my oncologist gave me co dydramol and gabapentin both to start the day of chemo, and the gabapentin built up in dose to the maximum by the next day. Had to take for five days and start before the pain got bad the day after chemo. Worked a treat and made the pain bearable. Hope you get sorted.

Hi

Just make sure you tell your oncolgist when you next see him. Sometimes the taxol can leave permaent damage to the nerves. My feet felt like I was walking on hot needles. and he took me off the Taxol after two treatments. he never gave me anything to help and it was only when I mentioned it to my Gp that she gave me drugs to help. My hands and feet are still not right, and it is 3 years since I had the taxol, bit I think some of the other drugs I have had since might aggrave the situation. Gabapentin does help, but walking can be a problem sometimes.

good luck
