Olaparib after 2 years?

Hi all

My mum was diagnosed with stage 4b high grade serous ovarian cancer in October 2022. She responded well to surgery and chemo and thankfully has been NED since her initial debulking in December 2022. She is under Christies and we think the plan is for her to finish the Olaparib in May (at the 2 year point). My mum is understandably nervous about coming off it. I wondered if anyone has been allowed to stay on it past the 2 year point?

Many thanks and I hope you are all doing well. This forum has been a lifeline for me, especially in the early days xx

Hi Victoriab2

I had the same diagnosis as your mum in Feb 2019, sounds like we’ve had similar treatment and both responded well, I had 2 years of Olaparib then had to stop, like your mum I was apprehensive and asked to continue but was refused. I had 3 monthly blood tests and CNS telephone call up to 5 years then1 year of twice yearly, that was Tuesday just gone and we’ve now gone to 12 monthly calls, which I’m now used to. My treatment has been through Clatterbridge Liverpool, so not to far from you. To be honest I’m glad to be away from the hospital and the fewer appointments the better. I think if your clear at 2 years your taken off Olaparib, if you still have some signs of cancer you can stay on it. I think everyone feels nervous, stopping taking the wonder drug, but after everything your mums been through this is small fry she’ll power through.

Sending loads of luck and love to you both

Hi ,

If you are NED after 1st line treatment then two years on Olaparib . If you have never achieved that, Olaparib can continue . I’m into my 6th year on it .

Best wishes for your continued good health

Hello. Diagnosed with Stage 3b ovarian in Sept 2021. Had debulking and Abraxane (allergic to Taxol) and then maintenance of Olaparib staring in February 2022. My last visit with GynOnc was in December and she indicated that I could and would be on it indefinitely as I was responding well. I thought 2-3 years but she believes I can continue. Fatigue is only side effect I know of or can identify. I would be nervous going off so happy I can stay on longer. I am BRCA1.

Hope this helps. All the best.
