I have been on niraparib for two and a half years, has been fine but now developed a lot of joint and muscle aching. Does anyone else suffer with this or is it just a coincidence and not the meds? Thank you!

Good question! I’d really like to know that too. “First reoccurrence” is a new phrase to me too which I wasn’t really aware of. Nasty implications…

Hi Tabby13,

I’ve been on Niraparib for just over a year now and I get aching muscles and joints especially in the mornings when I wake up. I find after I start to move about it tends to wear off. I think I read in the very long list that it is a possible side effect.

Hi Tabby, I have taken it for 4 years, and have to say joint and bone pain, is my top symptom I suffer this. My Oncologist will give me steroids to relieve this, but only twice a year. I take Naproxen and Paracetamol.

Hi Georgiatech thank you for reply, I am having to take painkillers but I have been told I will be coming off it after 3 years. What dose are you on, I am on 100mg ?

Hi Tabby , I was Niraparib for 11 mths in 2023 & didn't suffer from painful joints & muscles at the time . I started back on chemo last March till July & now I am on Avastin as maintenance, which I have been on before ,but this time my joints & muscles are so painful . When I get up in the morning I can hardly walk I am so stiff , the same thing after I have been sitting down . I enjoy walking everyday & I find it very hard when starting off but once I get moving it starts to ease . I did mention it in the hospital but they didn't prescribe me anything to ease it . I am not sure if it's the after effects of having been on the Niraparib or if it's just because of all the treatments I have been on constantly since 2019. I think maybe my body is now protesting. I started taking vitamins for my joints but they didn't really help. It might be no harm to mention it when you go to see your nurse specialist & see if she can prescribe something to help you. Good luck going forward

Thank you Tulips66 there seems to be alot of trial and error with meds we are put on. I shall keep going on niraparib as it seems to be working at the moment. Best wishes and I hope you stay well.

Hi, I’ve been on Niraparib for 9 months and have terrible stiff joints on standing from laying down, especially when I wake up in the mornings, but once I start hobbling around it goes away. I think it’s probably the parps plus chemo, they all take a toll on the body. Best wishes x
