Pseudomonas infection post laparotomy

Dear ladies,

Has any of you had this problem post surgery? I’ve been having issues with my wound since they removed the staples 10 days post op. I’ve also had a low grade fever coming and going from the 3rd day post op. I am now 3 and a half weeks post op and I found out today I have pseudomonas aeruginosa (they swabbed the wound in my bellybutton). So I’ve been put on antibiotics (ciprofloxacine 500 mg) for 7 days but I’ve read it’s not easy to get rid of this bug. Does anyone have any experience with something like this??

Well, I thought I would write as you hadn't had any replies although I haven't had your experience. Sounds like a nasty bug. I hope that the antibiotics are doing the trick. I got an infection after my first chemo and had to be hospitalised for 3 days and was on a constant antibiotic drip. It was sorted in the end. Best of luck x

It seems to be a rare occurrence. I worry mostly about starting chemo without being sure this infection has been eradicated. It appears it can linger locally in the infected tissues.
