I’m a 33 female, I recently had a CA 125 blood test completed and the result was 42, I had just come off my period the time of the test. I’m due to have a CT scan on Wednesday and a repeat of the bloodwork on Thursday. I was constipated for a few days when I saw my doctor but that has subsided and now I’m regular again. I’m trying not to stress out but I’m really scared. I don’t have overly painful periods but I do have a lot of pain during ovulation. I feel so alone right now and I can’t stop panicking. I guess I’m just wondering what everyone’s CA 125 was?

I can see you’re getting really worried and it's best to get these things checked but you don’t say if you have any other symptoms, aside from pain on ovulation. Maybe you need to track your symptoms carefully before you get really stressed. If you need more info, or if you think you have any other symptoms, there’s a really good symptom tracker on the ovacome website. You can track and print out any symptoms to take to your next doctor’s appointment. I’m wondering why you had a CA125 test? Maybe you had other symptoms? The CA125 is notoriously affected by all sorts of things:your period, an infection anywhere in your body, a gynae problem, UTI etc etc. When I was diagnosed, mine was 545, some friends have been in the thousands……yours is a tiny bit raised but there may be other valid explanations. My advice is to go onto the ovacome website, have a look at the symptom tracker and other info sources on there. If you still need more specialised advice, there is a free telephone or email helpline that you can contact for reliable, expert advice. The number and other info is on the website. ovacome.org.uk
Good luck, and I hope it’s all going to be easily explained for you.
Hi there - it is true that many things can increase your CA125 levels, so try not to get too worried about it. The main thing is that you are getting a CT scan which will give you a clearer indication of what is going on. Anything under 35 is considered normal, so yours is just a tiny bit raised so the chances are that it is not cancer. If it turns out that it is then you will have probably been diagnosed at an early stage, which would be good news (in a percentage way).
I started with a CA125 of 225 which they considered not to be particularly high, but my CT scan showed Stage 3c cancer.
They felt that because my 125 wasn't that high that it is not a particularly good indicator for me, but I have still been very relieved that it halved after the very first lot of chemo, and at the moment (after chemo, debulking op, more chemo) it is 15.
I do hope that the CT scan proves negative, but if it isn't then rest assured that you will get the best treatment and will discover that you are stronger than you ever thought you could be.
Thank you for your kind words. I’m happy your ca 125 is sitting at 15, I hope you are doing well. The waiting game is so hard. I have an 8 year old and my husband just left yesterday for work and will be gone a month. Feeling alone and trying to not let me daughter see me feeling nervous.
That's hard, to have your husband away. Do you have anyone who can go along with you when you get the scan results? Hopefully it will be a very quick 'nothing to report' result but it's good to have another pair of ears if there is more to be said. If you are on your own don't be afraid to take notes, ask them to repeat things, or ask if you can record on your phone. Minds have a tendency to go blank! Do some nice things with your daughter, and don't dwell. There is no point in worrying until there is something to worry about.
